choke collar = bad obedience class?

Teenage years! OH GREAT! *faints* [;)]

Excellent advice! I have a 30' leash so we will start training come as you suggested. Gracie is our only dog. When we got her she was very timid. Didn't like kids and was wary of people. Now she will play with kids (supervised of course!) and will let people pet her. She obviously wasn't socialized at all. We take her out a LOT, out to restaurants, to the dog park, to festivals, that kind of stuff.

IMHO, I don't think you should leave. Everyone has an opinion, all vary and it is never a bad thing to have a differing opinion. Some people might come across as hostile or strongly, just don't take it personally.

Okay, I don't understand, cyclefriend and jones. However, I'm not looking to debate. We all have dogs and all train the way we want to train.
I would not expect one way to work for all dogs and people. But I don't become closed minded either.

Just to clarify, I was not stating a position either way, I was just neutrally defining the terms of operant conditioning as I understand them - statements of fact (with the caveat that I may have gotten them wrong), not opinion.
