AKC Competitors out there??

Trudy and I have been competing in the UKC arena this year.  She has two legs toward her CD and one leg in Novice Agility.   We are going to the English Setter Association of America Nationals to do AKC Novice Agility in a week.  We are actually going with the Illinois Bird Dog Rescue group to represent our field-bred setters there and work our booth (also have some serious fun!).  The agility effort is kind of secondary, but, who knows we might just kick-a__.

I'm going to start showing my pointer, Grace, next year.   She's a rescue girl, so when I first got her, she was a bit shut down and I really didn't think that she was going to be "competitive" in either obedience or agility, but boy did she surprise me!  She'd dynamite and has tons of potential in both.  My setter (Trudy) is bright and capable but she just loses interest after 20 minutes - you can set your watch on it.  lol

We've done AKC Rally through Rally Excellent and intended to move on to Obed, but got side-tracked by the potential to participate in the very first ever AKC Working Dog official trial.  Gracie earned the first level title yesterday which they are calling the Temperament Test, TT - NOT the same as the American Temperament Test.  This "TT" is the equivalent to the Schutzhund BH, which Gracie already has.  Anyway, it was a thrill to be on the field and in the presence of great Doberman and working dog sportsmen like Dean Calderone and Ray Carlisle.  It was a spectacular day and I'm so very proud of Gracie.  Before the end of the year we'll add on her CD then move on up from there.

I have recently started competing in AKC rally and am ready to start our obedience career. We also do conformation. We have a club here thats has many different trainers to help us in the areas we are weak.

yay for more competitors!  I showed my golden in obedience, until her neurological disorder affected her too badly to go any further.  I do show Diesel my akita, he has his CD and RN, and we're about to start working on his RA, CDX, as well as some agility..oh and we also do conformation..so super busy!  I also have Tessa, my 4 month old beauceron, who i will be entering in January as soon as she is 6 months in novice rally, as well as conformation..and we will eventually do regular obedience as well.

I was beat by an Akita, at a rally trial in Oct. I was thrilledSmile. I adore Akitas. He got his title that day, so I didn't get to compete against him, again (it was Em's first leg).

I compete in Conformation and Obedience with my Beagles. My male is the #2 Obedience Beagle in the country and is a High In Trial winning dog. I have tried doing Obedience with my girls, but they are SO not interested in it. My new puppy seems to have the potential, so I am going to get her into classes and see if I can make an obedience girl out of her. I have 4 Champions of my own, and 6 Champions that I bred. I also handle dogs for a living and am currently showing the #2 Beagle in America. He is the boy in my sig. Nice to see so many people out there doing activities with their dogs and I love seeing the odd breeds competing. I get "You show BEAGLES in obedience?" a lot, so I am always a fan of those who try the breeds that do not always compete in performance.

yeah i love to see unusual breeds in the obedience ring- yay for people that can go against what everyone expects..i guess it just kinda runs in the family though, sence when i was a young child my mom had bassett hounds and an Irish setter that did very well in obedience.  Her irish was working on his utility title when  he suddenly got ill with cancer.  Any breed can do it, you just have to know how to keep some of the more challenging ones interested!

yea, i also love seeing "off" breeds in obedience. where i used to train and where i first started competing, the obedience rings were filled with goldens and aussies. when i moved to NJ i saw a lot fewer goldens and aussies in the obedience rings, and more odd breeds -- pugs, malamutes, newfies, mastiffs.

very nice to hear about the beagles!!

Speaking of funny... My friend was in the Open ring with her Beagle and was doing the drop on recall. She told him to drop and he did, except he only dropped his front half. He just laid there, with his butt up in the air. The judge was nice and gave him at least a minute to complete the rest of the drop. He didn't. And this was at the HUGE benched Cow Palace dog show, with HUNDREDS of spectators watching. You could hear the giggles coming from all directions. All you can do is laugh and shake your head. And at the Nationals this year, instead of doing his typical performance and doing what he was asked of, Oliver chose to spend the WHOLE time in the ring, doing this...

ROFL!!! well, having fun is the most important part ;)

Rolling on the floor laughing is right, Oliver was doing it ever chance he got!! I did not send him 3,000 miles across the country to have him goof off, but at least he had a good time! And he got to see most of the southern US. He has been to more states than I have now!
