WE DID IT!! Earned the BH!

So, we finally did it... competed for the Schutzhund BH... and got it.  Not in a very pretty way... About a minute into the routine, Gracie got stung/bitten on the behind by a bug (the yellow jackets were out, so I suspect it might have been them.)  The rest of the routine was such a struggle for me to keep her with me.  (Supposed to be NO handler communication other than one verbal command for each type.)  So, when your dog is whipping around biting her own butt about a million times throughout the course (ok, it just felt like that) and you cannot touch her, look at her, give leash corrections or signals, nothing... it's a challenge.

But, we passed!  I didn't get stung by the yellow jackets while I was waiting during the long down (like an honor down, 50 paces away from your dog, facing away from the dog so you can't see what she's doing).  They were all over me, and I had to keep still.

It was not pretty, but it's done.  So, that girl in the picture is now:
Gracie Jane der Flitzer BH, RN, CGC  phew!  Going for an advanced Rally next month before we venture into CD/CDX territory...

She's definately a great dog destined for great things!!![:D]

COOL....I've been wanting to do Sch for some time now...but there isn't a clib close to where I live.

How long did you guys work before you went for the title? are you going to go for the Sch 1?

We started the BH work for 2 months.  Then bailed for the summer (cuz they don't hold trials in the summer) We filled in with Rally to keep the dogs thinking about working, then started back up, literally, 3 weeks before the trial.  Just very fortunate to have an Obedience-happy dog.

well done,,, there was a dobe on the US team at the IPO world championships in Slovenia.  It is nice to see them in the field of work for which they were developed.

The American Dobes of today really do have a tough time of it.  I am only pursuing the obedience, because my Dobe couldn't cut it in Protection.  The man I trained with, Mike Pinksten, wrote an article a few years ago (that he just re-posted on his website) about Dobes in Schutzhund.  If you're interested, go to [linkhttp://www.olympiakennels.com]www.olympiakennels.com[/link] and check out the "Article of the Week".  (I'd give a direct link, but I can't connect from within work.)
