    Dasher's USDAA debut!!

Well, this past weekend Dasher and I hit the road yet again for another trial.  This time it was Dasher's first USDAA trial.  We had a blast! [:D] While I had done USDAA venues before with my previous dog, I had never entered in any of the "games".  Well, this past weekend we entered everything.  [8D]

On Saturday, we had our gamblers, standard, and pairs class.  He did ;pretty good in gamblers and ended up Q'ing and getting second.  We only missed 1st by 2 points! (We lost to our ;pairs partner and roommate for the weekend, another JRT.) Our standard run was great, he nailed all his contacts and waited, which was what my goal was, unfortunately we had one rail down so we didn't Q, but ended up 4th in the class. The pairs class was so fun, again, Dasher was great, we did the first half of the course.  We Q'd and ended up 2nd in the class!![:D]

Sunday we had snooker, standard and jumpers.  Snooker was great fun and we had a great opening, but as we were running to the first jump in the closing, I stepped on Dasher's toe and when he took the first jump he knocked the bar. [&:] Oh well, I think its something we need to work on, Dasher tends to get in front of me and spin/bark if I delay in giving him a command.  We are working on getting him to run by my side in those situations.  The standard run was ok, we didn't Q b/c had some issues with the tire and had a fly off at the dog walk.  The last class was the jumpers class, by this point in the day it was touch and go weather-wise as there was a tornado warning and we had some serious wind gusts and bouts of rain.  I was thinking of packing in early, but decided to wait and see.  Luckily the rain stopped as we were walking the course and stayed dry throughout our run.  The course was really fast and Dasher was going hell bent for leather.[;)] I thought for sure we would drop a rail as he was taking off about 3 feet before the jump! Luckily everything stayed up and we ended up wining the class!! Glad we stayed!! [:D]

There was a photographer there so of course I had to buy a CD with pics. Unfortunately, I don't have them yet, but as soon I get them I will post.  She got some good ones of Dasher on the contact obstacles and the chute.

So I just wanted to share our fun weekend with with everyone here.  BTW, the stuffies they were giving out to the winners came from I-dog! (I saw the tags) [;)]

Yay way to go Dasher!  Good job to the dog/handler team!!!  [:D]

What have your other trials been in?  I don't know that I can remember if it was ever posted....  USDAA is a lot of fun.  Less stress than AKC but a little more competitive than CPE.  But both are a lot of fun!    You should check out TDAA as well.  That venue is fun, much shorter, tighter courses for the little dogs and lots of fun.  :D

    Thanks Leslie!

Up to this point we have only done AKC (4 previous shows).  And we did one class at the JRTCA Nationals last year for fun.  Dasher turns 2 on Oct. 15, so I wanted to wait for USDAA as he jumps 16" in USDAA but only 12" in AKC.  I have never heard of TDAA, we mainly have AKC, USDAA, and NADAC in this area.  I have never done NADAC, but the tunnelers class they have sounds like fun.

I agree that USDAA is more fun than AKC, just the fact that you have more classes makes it more worth your wile. [:D] I am a member of an all breed AKC club, and we put on 2 trials per year, so by default I go to those.  [:D

    You go Dasher.
Everytime I see a posting on Dashers achievements I have to read it right away. You must be so proud of the little one.
Give him nosey posey kisses from me.[;)]

TDAA is just getting started I think.  Or it's still in its infancy at least.  I've only been to one trial but it was Kota's first trial and he got 2 Q's and 2 Third place ribbons.  Where as at USDAA, he didn't Q for several trials.  ;)  TDAA is Teacup Dog Agility Association.

WOW!!! That's great![:D]  Dasher is getting SO good!  I hope you get more videos of your trials soon!!!

Snooker scares me - I get so confused[:)].... What was the gamble - was it hard?

It would be really neat to get a sequence of Dasher pictures from early take-off to when he lands - he must look amazing!

    Thanks Lena and Jetty!!

I was intimidated by snooker at first too, but it was great fun doing it.  I am sure as we move up, it will involve much more brain work! [8D]

Actually I thought the gamble was kind of hard for starters, it was much harder than the AKC version (FAST) that I demo-ed at previous AKC trials.  The gamble was a jump out to a tunnel, then back towards handler to another jump then out away from handler to the last jump.

The photographer this weekend got some good pics of Dasher going over the A-frame, pretty cool sequence up, over the apex and down.  I will post as soon as she sends me the CD.  I agree though, I would love to get a good shot of Dasher flying through the air at a jump [:D]
