    my puppy won't eat

I have a 4 month old maltipoo puppy who is just adorable.  When we got him he was on NutroMax puppy food so we kept him on it.  At first he ate it just fine but then seemed disinterested.  We moistened it because it was hard for him to chew.  We switched to Nutro Ultra Puppy food and that worked for a little while.  We added boiled chicken or cottage cheese to it which helped.  He was eating 3 times a day but stopped eating lunch about 2 weeks ago.  Now he won't eat breakfast!  He doesn't seem to have any food allergies or a sensitive stomach.  He is healthy in all respects.  He recently stayed at my daughter's while we were on vacation and ate some of her dog's food which is Innova.  She seemed to think that he really doesn't like his dog food much and I'm beginning to think the same thing.  He weighs 4 pounds and although I know he won't starve himself I'm still concerned that eating just once a day is not enough.  I am considering changing his food to Innova for puppies and possibly mixing it with canned food.  It's been a long time since we've had a puppy and I've heard a lot about feeding your dog only homecooked meals.  I guess I just don't know where to start.  What are some good things to feed our puppy?  He likes chicken, beef, bananas, eggs, cottage cheese and cheese.  We just don't want to feed him anything that won't be good for him.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Innova is an excellent food.  That's what my crew eat for breakfast and every pup born here (I foster) is weaned to Innova from momma.

I also have a homecooked recipe that I'm always happy to share...it was tweaked and approved by a canine nutritionalist.  However, mine feeds six german shepherds for 3-4 days dinner so you either need a freezer to store a LOT or to be really good at math so you can cut the recipe down.  There is a catch tho....I charge for the recipe and that charge is consideration of making a donation to the MS Walk when I put up the new website in December.......

I would be interested in the recipe.

Glenmar's right. Innova is a great food and an improvment over Nutro, so might as well try it.  Not that Nutro Ultra is bad, but Innova is one of the best.

I agree with the others, innova is a great food, much better than nutro. And it sounds as though your malteseXpoodle likes it better than the nutro.Chritty does your daughter feed the regular innova or the small bites?

I agree with everyone else, but I also think it could be the weather. Many dogs cut themselves way back in the heat. Most quit eating lunch and dinner, but mine will only eat in the evenings now.

Also most pups drop the lunchtime meal first, of their own accord.Perhaps you could give him a small meal in the am,like a handful of dry or a couple spoons of wet food and his proper meal later in the evening.

In response to Edie - my daughter feeds her dog Scout the dry food for adult dogs.  I'm not familiar with the different types that Innova has but the bites don't seem very large.  When Eli ate some of Scout's food (which was mixed with chicken livers) his stool was loose the next day.  Don't know if that was from traveling or eating the new food.  From what I've read I need to switch from Nutro.
