Question about scraps

Glenda, I don't get what people mean by a "rich dog food" either.  Maybe someone will be kind enough to explain why they think a food is "rich."

My perception of "rich" means calorie dense, especially in reference to foods like Innova, etc.

I apoligize for using the wrong word...it's just the first adjective i thought of for steak. But yes, it is the fat. We had a JRT one time that gobbled up a knocked over plate of steak. We thought it would be okay, but a few days later she almost died from pancreatitis. It was VERY scary.

I share small amounts of my food with Max, too. I try to make sure that what I'm giving him is meat, cheese, fruit or veggies instead of some of the *snack foods* I'm addicted to (like Goldfish crackers [:D]) because he doesn't eat very much for a big dog anyway - about 1-1/2 cups a day - and it doesn't take very much people food  to fill him up.

but I never saw a nutritional problem in any of my clients..

Oh really? never saw diabetes? allergies? fat dogs? recurrent ear infections? dogs that showed signs of aging really young (i.e. age 7 or 8)? dogs that were smelly? dogs that needed their teeth cleaned? dogs that needed their anal glands expressed?   These are all nutritional problems.

Just a question. How are those last two nutrition related? Maybe it's still because of her past life, and damage done, but I can feed Teenie 100% raw, no veggies, and her teeth still build tartar like crazy. She doesn't have much enamel. Of course, the vet blames her age and breed. I blame inappropriate chewing, at some point.

Emma has to have her anal glands expressed every couple of weeks. She's on  a reduced protein homemade diet. Her immune system isn't good enough for raw, and she doesn't break down bone. She's never been able to break down bone, and doesn't even get recreational bones, now. Last bone she had cost me $400 and could have cost her life.... Anyhow... how are her glands, that have done this since she was a very young puppy, related to her diet?
