A (indirect) answer from Timberwolf on amaranth

Knowing that I wasn't going to get an answer from Timberwolf, I asked Only Natural Pet Store. Got an answer in an hour.
    Hello Kelly,
Thank you for visiting Only Natural Pet Store. Our current stock still lists amaranth as an ingredient. According to Timberwolf, they have not included amaranth in their products for the last nine months or so. However, not all the packaging has been updated, and until they update their packaging, we will not know for certain if amaranth is included. Timberwolf did not have a definitive date on when they will update all their packaging, so unfortunately, I am not able to give you a time estimate. I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance and thanks again.

    Regards,

First of all, that kind of deception in labeling is totally unacceptable. Nine months is a long time to not be putting something in the food that's on the label. Whether Amaranth is good or not, that is not the point here. They are deceiving all the people buying the food, which some may be buying it BECAUSE it contains amaranth. If they are willing to use these tactics on one ingredient, what is stopping them from lieing about the other ingredients or even the GA?
Enforcing these companies is very hard to do with the manpower and unless they (the USDA) have multiple complaints, there is really no reason to do any investigating/inspections.

I really had high hopes for TO and really wanted to give it a try myself (never got to though), but now I don't think I would touch it with a ten foot pole.

I'm certainly glad that I never bought any. What a mess. They really should have done something about their customer service. last year, when the food started gaining popularity, instead of doing nothing and now they have a big mess on their hands.

Like was mentioned in the other thread, they ship cat food in dog food bags, they also ship some new foil bags, some old gray/white bags, and plain blank plastic bags with stick on labels.

Can they not print new bags? Are they so cheap that they have to use every last one of every kind of bag they have, breaking all kinds of regulations in the process?

    Poor management for sure!

Sounds like their commitment to provide the best possible nutrition has turned into, how much  money can we save on the food so we can make more MONEY for ourselves, with NO concern for what they could be doing to our pets! For pete's sake, some of the stuff that is happening could be killing someones animal (or making them very ill)

It is a shame because it seems that they don't want people to buy their food. What good is a product without a comapny to back it up. The most important thing, I believe, is good customer service and word of mouth business. I buy many products from a store near my home that was starting to sell Timberwolf, but now is having a hard time with distribution and may not continue to sell it. There are many excellent alternatives and if Timberwolf doesn't want to lose its small customer base, it better get its act together. If I had a company like that, I would answer every email as quickly as I could. Why go to all the trouble of making a product that many consider excellent, and then not promote it properly?

I'm going to reply to them with something to the effect of "I'm surprised that a reputable company such as yourself would knowingly sell a mis-labeled product."

A few years ago when TO first started, I talked with Mark several times about the food, loved the food- had good bags and 'bad' bags where dogs had horrible diarrhea.  Then the shipping became unreliable. Have been charged for a bag which I never received. Stopped getting any correspondence at all from them.
I keep hearing how good the food is (and I know it is, most of the time) but the customer service leaves much more to be desired.
Glad I haven't tried another bag- although tempted because the formulas look so good on the website.

    Their reply

Hello Kelly, Thank you for your response. I can certainly understand why you would want to wait to buy Timberwolf until they update their packages. We continue to sell their products because they are of good quality, and our customers requested that we carry them. However, I have brought the amaranth issue up with our customer care manager, and we are planning on putting a note on product page informing customers of the ingredient change and package issues.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance and thanks again!

I ordered from TO 10 days ago and haven't heard a thing.  Luckily, I used PayPal - they have a good claim resolution process - in case I need to get my $ back.
