I was food shopping the other day and saw Purina's new Dog Chow "forumla" at the end of one aisle. Though I never go down the pet aisle for anything, I did notice it on the end, due to its blatant advertsiting effort.
Out of curiosity, I checked its ingredients. The results were unexpected. Keep in mind that this is a variation of Purina Dog Chow. Ground yellow corn was, of course, numero uno in the list, followed by "chicken meal". If that wasn't surprising enough, I read on to see "beef" as the third ingredient ... and then the typical stuff in Purina products ("soybean meal"
;). But it gets better -- they also use brown rice, oatmeal and pearled barley.
This dog food is, in my opinion, better than both Beneful and their O.N.E. brand. It has no by-products, either. I'd never let Roxie touch it, but it's a nice alternative to someone seeking something better than normal Dog Chow, Beneful, or the overpriced O.N.E. variations.
