    Homemade Frozen Dog Treats

    Hi everyone!

Can you all post your recipes for the homemade Frosty Paw type treats you make??

    Thanks!!

Well, since you asked so nicely.....[:D]

I use a big container of either plain or vanilla yogart, a dab of peanut butter, a drizzle of honey and blend it all in the blender, then pour into ice cube trays to freeze.

I took plain yogurt,, and mixed up a few differently.   Some I put mashed banana in, and I bought baby food to add in some,,,even baby food meat in a couple just for something different. But mostly fruit baby food.  Peanut butter gave Ollie the runs so I never gave it to Bubby either.

    Dairy-free fruit flavor:

Steam butternut squash, mash, and remove seeds that remain (you don't have to get too picky about this).  Add a dribble of honey or molasses, and either a handful of berries or a quarter cup or so of cubed fruit, depending on what is in season.  I prefer the berries, which are high in antioxidants, needed to counteract heat stress and pollutants.  Whirl in the blender or food processor and freeze in ice cube trays.

    Or dairy free meat flavor:

Take a can of pumpkin, asparagus, or green beans (salted ok for this).  Add honey AND molasses, about a teaspoon each, and a jar of meat baby food.  Whirl in the blender or food processor and freeze in ice cube trays.

This flavor is excellent for sick dogs if the vet has OKed bland food and water.  Limit consumption because of salt, but one or two cubes are perfect to replace electrolytes used in exercise.  You might want one yourself - they are much better for you than Gatorade!

I freeze teas, as well. My dogs get herbal teas, that are beneficial, or just tasty (they LOVE peppermint). Sometimes, I'll make a couple of cups, freeze them in ice trays, and put them in a ziploc baggie, labeled, in the freezer.

Dandelion is a mild diuretic, and a mild kidney and liver detoxer.

Chamomile is a calmer, anti inflamatory, and mild pain reliever. It's also fantastic for an upset tummy.

Peppermint is good for upset tummies, bad breath, and yumminess.

My dogs really seem to enjoy tea, especially if there's a spoonful of raw honey in the cup:)

So, if I make my Sleepy Time tea and don't finish it I can freeze it for her???
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah. Emma loves my sleepy time extra. It's just sleepy time with valerian, which is something she gets fairly regularly, anyways.

Cool. . .I almost never finish it all anyway.  Thanks!

OK these all sound yummy!  For the yogurt... plain, low fat yogurt (or fat free... whichever is less sugar) is the preference right?
    • Gold Top Dog
I should have only the low fat/fat free products because I have high cholestrol and a strong family history.  Dogs process fats differently than humans do, so as far as I know, it's not an issue of the fat content (which they use for energy anyhow) but rather the SUGARS.   I could be wrong tho....it's happened before......not often......[;)]

I went last night for the ingredients.  I just got regular vanilla yogurt, not fat free.

I guess it would be an individual preference, if the dog is on a low fat diet or something.  As long as it's not artificially sweetened, right Glenda??

That's the way I understand it Lori.

The only reason why I use plain fat free yogurt is because Romeo will not eat the regular kind... he is a bit loony my baby...for sweeteners I use raw honey because he does not like molasses. [;)
