ORIGINAL: Edie    ...Because most abady threads that i have seen have been less than positive, this may have seemed a perfect opportunity for the OP to sing the praises of the allmighty Mr. Abady and his special idea's,and give him a plug. What is it with abady feeders????[&o]

    Yea...sure...perfect opportunity...it's actually a plot, a conspiracy...you people are too much.

Like I said, 6 already chiming in to take their bashing shots...what is it with you cheap kibble feeders?

Fair call! I deserved that [8D]

ORIGINAL: papillon806   It's just because he asked a question that he already had the answer to?  I guess from our experience, most people who do that just try to "stir things up"

Well, seems kinda rude if you ask me.  This person comes in and it's their first post and that is how they get treated?  Six people chime in with negatives and acqusations of just here to 'stir the pot'.

Juji, sorry this happened...it's not all that bad here really, there are some nice people here...Abady just happens to bring out the worst in some for whatever reason...you sumed it up pretty well with this here:

I know a lot of you don't like Abady, but I have to say, the man is right.  From my personal experience in feeding my dogs…,kibble or cooked, digestion, activity level, skin and coat for my dogs were not good… He does make sense. I used to feed his food a while back, but was concerned too about the ingredients and thoughts behind it all, so I switched to other brands and cooking, my dogs did better on Abady, I learned the hard way...

    I second that…well put.

Why do you keep coming back to the 6 negatives thing? If someone posts a thread they're going to get answers - whether you (or they) like them or not. We're giving our opinion, just like you're giving yours.

OK, you know what, I don't care what BRAND we are talking about here.  Post #1 doesn't make sense after reading post #2.

Why would you ask the original question if you've already used the product and like it.  Why act all clueless about it??

I understand most will have a negative, that#%92s expected but to think someone is here just to stir the pot?  Seems like a stretch to me, that#%92s why I eluded to the fact twice it was 6 people where helping the stew along.  Willow Chow, maybe this person used it 10 years ago, so what?

Juji, sounds like you had some trouble with the dog and Abady seemed to work the best?  Classic is good option to the more expensive Maintenance & Stress.  You would only need that I think if your dog is working hard, otherwise Classic is pretty darn good for being second from the bottom of the granular line-up.

I know a lady with a Great Dane who was having some problems, put her dog on Abady and her dog did fantastic with Abady M&S (Classic only recommended for growing pups weighing under 60 lbs).  Due to rising costs (transportation mostly I think) Abady did go through a price increase.  She got discouraged because of price and switched to Eagle Pack.  This was about a year ago.  She just emailed me, asked if I remembered her from another list, and mentioned nothing worked as well as the Abady for her allergy suffering Great Dane and she is switching back after going through an assortment of premium feeds.

Juji, it's very possible that your dog simply has a gluten intolerance and that's why he does okay on Abady and not other foods.  Abady is gluten free, but that's about the only positive thing about this food.
(90% of the other kibbles and homecooked recipes out there contain barley, rye, wheat or oats.  These can all set off a dog with gluten issues.)

Have you tried California Natural lamb and rice?  That's a decent gluten free formula.
Nutro lamb and rice is not as good, but is gluten free.
So are the Wellness Simple Solutions formulas, and Natural Balance's venison& rice or fish & sweet potato formulas.

Have you tried grain free or at least gluten free (no wheat/rye/barley/oats) homecooking?

Please don't think that Abady is a quality food just because your dog tolerated it!  It's what they left out that helped- because what's actually in it is very low quality.

If you have been so swayed by their "saponin" scare tactic advertising, you will be happy to know that the majority of the kibbles I recommended above are also "saponin free"

It seemed like a set up because you first post was a question that seemed liked you knew nothing of Abady food and there here later on, you claim all this experience with it, etc. It seemed like a set up. Maybe it wasn't.

It reminds of another thread where a person thought of getting a Mal or Husky and we all tried to support him and suggest that he volunteer at a shelter to get experience handling and training dogs and then, near the last, he oro she says, "well, actually, I already work at a shelter."

Now, trust me, I understand being the "underdog", so to speak, feeding a food that plenty of others have crapped on. But I'll stand right up from the start and say that I use it, no subterfuge. According to my mother, I've always been that way. No shame.

If you've been feeding Abady a while and like the results, just say so, regardless of what others say because they won't ever stop giving their opinion, just like I'll continue to talk about what works best for our dog, etc., etc. And the same for Charles. Just say what you have to say and stick up for it.

When I talk to some people local to me and mention that I'm in a forum where plenty of people feed their dogs raw, that is totally alien to them. It's the complete opposite of being here, sometimes. I can even point out to them that several people have dogs doing well on raw, or at least evidently so.

People here are really quite touchy on the food subject for one reason or the other. I personally feed Beneful but I know this is not a good food so I am switching to Pro Plan which is the best available to me. I know many people hate it but hey, its what I can feed.

I agree with the posters on the fact that its our responsibility as pet owners to feed them 'good stuff' but hey, Pedigree or Beneful, or any other so-so pet food is not going to kill them or else they wouldnt be aloud to have their products on the market.

There are some people who can only afford Pedigree, or even Old Roy and that doesnt make them bad dog owners.

I cant afford a 30lb bag of Drs. Foster and Smith Puppy food which is like 35 dollars with the ridiculous 82 dollar shipping fee. I love Lizzie, but I have a house to maintain

There is that. I've been told our food is overpriced. But I buy it because that is what he does well on. If it was more expensive and still within my means, I would buy it, anyway.

And for others, it's easy to assume that because we have computers, we're all rolling in the dough. I think a number of people here have set-up like my old computer. A 10 year old dinoaur on dial-up. It's a very real scenario for people to have a budget so tight that $30 does make a difference. Now, I have been able to make some money and a while back, struck an arrangement with the client-friends with the coonhounds to buy one of their extra computers very cheaply, on time. We all have to work within our budget.

I grew up poor, where $10 could make a difference. But we made it. And I think we all care for our dogs as best as we can.

Again, if you were all set with the food, why bother asking something you already are decided on??  And, then say everyone is being rude when the responses are not what  you want to hear.

Edited---I find it interesting that of all the points Ron made in Post 25 that that's all you commented on.
