    Dog food

I went to the store today, and yes bought dog food. I really don't want to feed my girls this stuff, but I don't think I can afford a raw diet. How can people say it would be cheaper? Can anyone explain?

Raw feeding can be a bit expensive depending on where you live. You can try feeding your dog a mix, which saves up on dog food. Also, you can feed a high quality dog food (I'm going to order Drs. Foster and Smith's puppy food and Natural Balance) so that you know youre dog is getting an appropriate diet.

With raw food, you have to supplement calcium and other vitamins, so what I do is give Lizzie kibble in the morning and in the afternoon less than half kibble, and some turkey, chiken, lamb, or any other good looking meat that I am cooking for the night

Any time I cook with chicken or ground meat, I put a good amout in their bowl kinda as atreat and they love it. I also give them a raw egg on occasion. This is kinda a start then I guess. Thanks

If you're going to get dog food, get something like Natural Balance which is at Petco or Blue Buffalo which is at Petsmart.  There are other great foods too, but those come to mind as easy to get.

I supplement Jessie's kibble with cooked and raw meat too but you want to be careful how much kibble you are replacing with other food if that food isn't nutritionally balanced or your dog may not be getting all the vitamins and minerals it needs. Recently I started replacing one of Jessie's meals with Nature's Variety Raw Medallions several times a week; it is nutritionally balanced so she's still getting the vitamins and minerals she needs. Here are some links about raw feeding that may help you in finding a way to afford to feed raw :

There are many here who feed their dogs a raw meal in the morning and kibble in the evening; perhaps you could afford that. Good luck and I hope these links help. [:)]
