    Frozen raw for puppies???

Can anyone tell me how I would convert the feeding guidelines for a puppy?  Its the Organic Chicken frozen patties from NV... it says 3/4 patty a day, and doesnt say anything about puppies.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should be giving her?  Double this like regular food?  Thanks.

Thanks!!  Interesting... the bag says 3/4 patty for 25 lb dog, the site says 2 patties for 25lb puppy.  Just wanted to share that.   Thanks Kelly[:)]

You want to feed puppies about 2.4 - 3% of their estimated adult weight or 7-10% of their 8 week old weight.

The trick with puppies is that they go through growth spurts and stops.  The BEST way to guage how much to feed is to feel your puppy.  If they are nice and lean - keep up with that amount.  If they are too lean (you can easily see the ribs) - increase their daily intake.  If they are roly-poly they are too FAT, decrease their amounts.

When raw feeding a puppy you feed pretty close to what their adult ration will be.  Apparently the frozen raw guidelines follow this general rule.  All the Border collie puppies I've raised have eaten much less than this guideline, probably because their energy requirements for growth are slightly under that for a similiar sized dog (most of them are easy keepers, a heritage from the days when they were a poor man's dog), while their energy requirement while working are way over that for more sedentary dogs.

Uh, anyway, the point is to start with something reasonable, and then just watch the condition of your puppy.  The pup shouldn't be skinny but most breeds shouldn't be roly-poly, either.

The patties are actually very big so the jump from 3/4 patty to 2 patties was a big jump.  So, its not too close to the adult serving.  A lot of bags of kibble or cans say to feed puppies double the adult serving.

I do go by her weight, shes very lean.  I dont want to put weight on her though.  Shes doing fine and I normally just gauge her and hows shes acting, but I did wonder about the conversion on those raw patties.  Shes not getting them anyway at the moment as we try to build her immune system, but after a while I would like to get her back on them a few times a week.

I feed my puppy the NV medallions, which I think are much much smaller than the patties.  We feed 3 total a day, 1 to 1.5  in the morning and 1.5 to 2 in the evening.  I tried giving the recommended amount of 5 a day, but he would never finish his food.  I think they do tell you to feed more than truely necessary.  I agree that the best way to determine is by knowing your dog, feeling his ribs, etc.  I LOVE the easy way of raw feeding with NV!

I am feeding a mainly raw frozen diet from A Place For Paws. I like the quality of the food and the way it is packaged and shipped. I have used NV raw medallions in the past and thought it was a very good product. The food I am feeding now is an excellent product from a wonderful company.
