    Denties

    Does anyone use these and/or have a list of what's in them.  I wanted to order some from dog.com but can't seem to find anything.  The company that makes them is Beefeater.  Thanks.

    Lori; This is a little OT but you remember the Beefeater's Hip Chips that didn't agree with Willow? I decided not to give them to Jessie because they're brittle and when Jessie bit into one it broke into sharp pieces. Two days after she ate it she threw up; the hip chip was the only new thing in her diet. This is the best description I could find of Denties;

    OMG, I feel so bad that Jessie got sick too!  They seemed so good at first, Willow also got sick and there were undigested pieces, so no more Hip Chips.

    OK, yeah, I don't have enough info on the Denties so I'm not gonna try them.

    I think I'll order some Zukes Z-Ridge Dental bones, ever try those??

    I just so wanted something that I could pick up if I wanted to and not have to order.  I like being able to go get something if I suddenly need it.

    Jetta did not like the Zukes bones at all. They aren't very flavorful and they don't have a smell, so if Willow is a bit picky she probably won't like them. Of course, if she does like them they are great for teeth and have pretty good ingredients!

     Not to worry; it was only one incident; there were undigested pieces like with Willow. I was trying to find something she could chew without any problems; she manages to scrape small pieces of bone off marrow bones and soup bones and is uncomfortable for a short while after she passes them in her stool  because they make her stool too firm.  I'm using a product now that my vet recommended called C.E.T. HEXtra ; they are rawhide chews treated with  10% chlorhexidine to kill the bacteria that causes plaque; 10 minutes of chewing is enough to kill the bacteria. I know rawhide can be a problem too but Jessie has never had any problems with it. She always chews the rawhide into very small pieces before swallowing. The chews are about an eigth of an inch thick and are rectangular shaped and come in different sizes; Jessie is as big as Labs so I get her the large size. Here's a link about them;

     If you click the " chew and improved add" there is some information about them. They are expensive at the vet; there are many places online that are much cheaper. Never have tried the  Zukes Z- Ridge Dental bones, good luck in deciding what to get.

    The ones I've gotten have smelled wonderfully, of vanilla and mint.

    My dogs love them, and they last all of 15 minutes.

    Well, maybe I will try a couple then, she really likes vanilla.  Are they the same consistency of the edible nylabones.  She takes about a week or so to finish one of them if she's using it every day.

    While I'm on this subject, how often do you give something like a bully stick?  I usually replace one meal a week with one.  The only reason I don't give her a meal if she gets one is that for some reason if she has one and also food she ends up with the runs.  She's got a sensitive system anyway so I'm not surprised.

    I occasionally (like... every other month?) give a bully stick instead of a meal. They love them, but it's so much protein at once! I usually give a very veggie ful meal at the next feeding.

    The Zuke's bones feel similar to an edible Nyla to me, but they don't last as long.

    If she likes fish, the Snack 21 salmon skin bones are quite decent, but again... they don't last long. They lasted five minutes, but I did notice that they had a tooth scraping effect. I've got some Sam's Yams Big Boyz that they like a lot, too.

    Really?? Thats weird--maybe the ones I got for Jetta were too old or something. When she didn't touch them, I sniffed one and realized that of course she won't like it--it has no smell! The store where I get them doesn't get much turnover, so maybe they were out of date...

    Ya know, really the only thing Jetta will chew on are the Dingo bones, becuase they have the chicken jerky braided in with them. But I know those are gross and unhealthy so i only give her those once in a great while.

    Yeah, they smell good, to me. I have a sensitive nose, though. The strawberry nylabones don't have any smell, to me, until they start chewing.... My dogs are *not* picky, at all. They'll even chew on plastic nylabones.

    I'm thinking about trying the Sam's Yams but I don't think she's going to want it because it's not a meat.  What a pain, all this over a chew.

    Mine love Sam's Yams, but they love sweet potatoes in general.
