Food and medicine?

    Food and medicine?

My Boxer was spayed today, the vet said to give her medicine after she's eaten but she won't eat.  Is it okay to give her the medicine on an empty stomach or is that too bad for her?

I would hold off if she doesn't want anything tonight, start the medication tomorrow.  I wouldn't give it on an empty stomach, between that and the anesthesia, she'll probably get sick.

Thanks!  I put the meds in with her food and left them available to her all night in case she wanted anything.  She seems to be doing great this morning without the pain med and she is eating a little and drinking!  Thanks again!

Oh dear.  A pill sitting in a bowl of food can have all kinds of chemical changes so please give her fresh food and a fresh pill.  Don't try to hide the pill, just coat it with butter and tell her that she needs to take it and pop it in her mouth.  The butter makes it tasty and it'll slide right down her throat.

Thanks, I did give her fresh food and water this morning.  The pills were still there so  I just gave her a fresh antibiotic (no pain pill) and she ate it right up.  She's usually pretty good about taking pills (interceptor, etc.).  Thanks again!

I'm glad to hear that she's doing well today. If so, she may not need the pain medication. Most are NSAIDs anyway and can cause reactions.
Keep her quiet though and don't allow her to jump.
Also keep an eye on the incision to make sure it's healing normally.
    What's the pain medication name?
