Lamb & Rice dry food

    Lamb & Rice dry food

How many people feed their dogs the lamb and rice formulas?  I switched my two dogs over to lamb and rice, and they both are doing better (no more soft stools).  Any favorite brands of lamb and rice that you like?

We feed Bubblegum Lamb and Rice, but also the other formulas of Eagle Pack food.  I have 2 30# bags going at a time and feed her one formula for about a week and then switch to the other. Right now she is eating Holistic Lamb and Rice, and last week she was eating Chicken formula!  Can't tell which she loves more, don't think it matters to her because she gobbles it up!

I like California Natural's Lamb & Rice formula.

I feed Shadow Nutro Large Breed Adult Lamb and Rice. He does quite well on it. I once tried him on Innova and he had an allergic reaction while eating it for almost two weeks. I put him back on Nutro and he's been fine, since then. Innova's a great food that didn't agree with him.

Thanks!  I have tried some of the better brands, like Innova, but it gave my dogs soft stools.....so I am currently feeding Eukanuba Lamb & Rice, and I know that Eukanuba isn't the best (from what I have read on here), so I was curious what other people feed.  I hate to change their food again, but they do seem to be doing very well on Eukanuba Lamb & Rice.  But, I am still open to suggestions.....

My friend's lab is on Eukanuba and he is in beautiful shape.  I know it's not a recommended food - but I thought about trying it - just because her dog looks SO good.

Wes did REALLY well on Pro Plan Lamb & Rice as well as Diamond Lamb & Rice.  (We fed Diamond over a year and a half ago ... with their current mess I wouldn't touch it with a 20' ;pole!)   He's currently on Natural Balance Venison & Brown Rice.

I no longer feed either - he seems to develop a sensitivity after 3-4 months to any food so I rotate his food but he does better on red meat based foods (lamb/venison) as opposed to fowl (duck/chicken/turkey).

Thanks for the good info.  It seems like dogs do quite well on lamb and rice, and I was glad to hear that your friend's dog is doing so well on Eukanuba too (I was a bit worried since it gets such bad reviews, but I guess you never know and all dogs are different), mine are thriving on it and have nice coats (and like I mentioned before, better stools too).

I moved Harley from Innova to California Natural Lamb & Rice a few weeks ago.  He is doing great on it so far.  His stools are no longer soft but are just a tad bit larger.  I am anxious to try the Innova Evo Red Meat formula when it comes out to see how he will react to it.

EDA: I had him on a Nutro Lamb & Rice dental formula before and he did well on it but he pooped way to often and too much...that was what prompted the switch to Natura products for us.

Some people here have had nasty variations to call Eukanuba. I say, if your dogs are doing well on it, then so be it. Another lady here feeds her dogs Purina and some homecooked and her dogs are in outstanding health and she has the bloodwork to prove it. I have friends with 2 coonhound mixes and an amstaff and they feed Science Diet and are pleased with the results. You can certainly try a food that you, the human, think might be better. But be prepared for the dogs not doing well on it, though it may look like a human's idea of a full, rounded meal. Then, be prepared to go back to the food that they were doing well on. That's exactly what happened to me and my dog.

    Champagne--why not? I'm curious too...

I had a sample of Solid Gold Hundenflocken (lamb) and Gingerbread completely turned his nose up at it. It was the only food that he ever did that with. Both of my best friend's Coonhounds did the same thing to Blue Buffalo Lamb & Rice. Could be a coincidence, but our dogs just don't seem to like lamb!

As far as the person on here that feeds Purina and has healthy dogs- from what I've read she feeds a lot of very healthy home cooked foods. I'd say that most likely her dogs are healthy despite the Purina, not because of it. Kind of like a person that eats 5 happy meals a week along with Salmon and salads, any benefits probably aren't coming from the happy meals. [;)]

It is common for dogs to have problems w/ it, and is not easily digested imo.  My dogs don't handle it well and begin staining (paws/face).

    Champaign,
why do you feel that it is not easily digested? My understanding is that it is well digested and my experience is similar, smaller and less smelly stool than other foods we have tried. (perhaps I am missing something in this analogy) Both of my dogs have done great on Eagle Pack Holistic Lamb and Rice up till very recently. One is having a bit of trouble right now but we're not sure if it food related. Not trying to start an argument here, just interested in your opinion since this is our current food.
