Cow hoofs are a godsend for Rory and I! She has the most sensitive stomach on earth, she chews through toys in 10 seconds flat, and I hesitiate to giver her pig's ears because they are so rich and you have to monitor them eating them because they can be a choking hazard.
The cow hoofs are 100% safe, they wont break of in shards for them to chok eon, for some reason dogs absolutly love them, and they don't contain fat or grease like soem rawhides or bones.
When Rory was little she didnt really like to hang outside by herself and followed me around everywhere. I remember the first time I borught one home for her she took it outside and stayed their chewing on it till sunset until I brought her in. They are cheap and they last several days.
A great way to keep them entertianed for a long time is to find a real hollow deep one, fill it with peanut butter (if your dog's tummy is ok with PB) place it in a baggie and let it freeze for at least 24 hours. Woo, man they sure love it! What are you waiting for? Go buy some of those, ha ha!

You're right in that COOKED bones are dangerous, but i am unsure of why you also lumped RAW bones into that same category??

I feed raw bones of practically every animal, they get some everyday, and i know alot of other members also feed rmb's to their dogs.

Don't forget that you can stuff the cow hooves with peanut butter or other goodies and then freeze them for a nice treat.

I've had 3 different dogs (2 basenjis, one lab) chip teeth on cow hooves so I don't feed them.  I've also had a dental DVM tell me that they are harder than the dog's teeth.

My vet told me raw and cooked bones are both dangerous and i also read about it somewhere

My allergy dog would be dead if raw bones were dangerous.  He's lived off not just rmbs, but entire animals (duck, quail,  rabbit, lamb, pig, beef quarters) for over a year now - he can't have any kind of grain, several kinds of meat, or any type of processed kibble.  The last few months I've found a few commercial products he can eat in very small amounts but not nearly enough to live off of!

Cow hooves are pretty hard, DO break in shards if you aren't watchful and have an enthusiastic chewer, and while they don't smell like a  dog pooped in your house, they do smell like a herd of cows spent some quality time in your house![:D]  I used to use them, however in my pre-raw days, and sometimes if I'm caught away from home with a rescue transport and need something to acclimate them to the crate, I'll pop a cow hoof in there.  They are useful for chewing fun for dogs that aren't used to raw yet (like new fosters or transports).

My crazy chewers were easily able to seperate out anything I froze in there so that trick never worked for me.  It does work for most dogs, I think, though.

Raw bones are not nearly AS dangerous as cooked... but I will admit nothing is totally safe.  Raw bones turn into gel in the intestines and can easily be digested IF they can get a piece off, but it will be very hard for them to actually even have that happen.  Cooked bones break much more easliy and splinter into sharp pieces and pass through the whole body that way, not digesting and usually coming out the other end (if your lucky) in the same pointy piece it went in as.  I have fed cooked bones with no issues before I knew that, so its not to say if your dog does get some you will certainly have problems, but with raw bones you are MUCH less liekly to have any.

Never had cow hooves, but to me, again, nothing is 100% safe - all you can do is the best you can do and keep close watch.

Most of us are familiar with why cooked bones are dangerous. Someone should tell that to the loose JRT that got into my old trash can and made off with a cooked chicken bones. He's still running around loose, owning half of the town, thanks to his incompetent owners. As well as the pekinese that get to run loose. Not only did one of them try to fight Shadow (Shadow shook the bejesus out of him and let him go), but they also come over to our property and visit with him at the gate. The might have gotten some of those cooked bones. The JRT owns part of one street and the pekinese own the rest. So, no matter where we walk in the middle of the street, we are invading some dog's property.

I feed cow hooves and deer hooves to my pack. All a hoof is is a large finger nail.

I asked my vet about cow hooves many years ago and he said they can chip dogs teeth so I don't give them to Jessie.
