No date on Timberwolf Bags

    No date on Timberwolf Bags

    Hi All:
I just recieved my order of Timberwolf Organics.  The store that sent them to me is in NJ. They sent me two 3.3 pound bags of the Bison, which I ordered.
Neither bag has a date on it or any kind of code and they are brown with white.
On the back is only about their company, Guaranteed Analysis and Ingredients. Nothing about Feeding Guidelines. I had ordered these before and my dogs ate it at first then stopped for some reason. This was around the time of the Diamond recall, then I found out that TO is made at a Diamond plant.
Anyhow, does anyone know if the smaller bags have NO DATE?
And so the smaller bags not have feeding guidelines. This bag is much different than their usual greenish bags, the larger ones?
    Thanks

Did you order direct from TO or someone else? They should not be reselling those bags, they were marked as not for resale on TO's site originally.

I received those same bags in the Elk flavor. I also noticed that there was no date or production code. That is one of the reasons I no longer feed TO.

They no longer sell the 3.3 lb bags - they had them on sale to clear them out some time ago - in fact I received my order in mid-February and they had been on sale for some time even then. On TO's website it said they were on sale because they didn't have a UPC code/not for resale. I *think* the UPC code is the barcode on the bags, which those have - they just don't have production information.

My concern when I received them was had it been sitting for a long time or was it just fresh kibble in old bags? I never did receive an answer from them, just one of many things I never received an answer on. I tend to think it was packaged a long time ago - can't think of any reason they'd be using old bags now, when they have stock on their foil 4 lb bags.

The food seemed okay though. I went ahead and fed it, although someone posted recently about their Elk smelling a lot different than mine did - so I still wonder if it was an old formula.

Let me know if you are able to get an answer, I'm curious.

Oh, and it was those type of bags that I found the different kibbles in. Large, light colored round pieces mixed in with the small dark pieces. I've yet to hear of a large round, light colored Timberwolf formula - they're all very dark. I think it was pieces of whatever other food is made on those same machines.

Ok, I'll shut up about Timberwolf now. [8|]

I purchased them from a pet shop in North Jersey, i'm in South Jersey. I did question the owner of the shop about the bags because of the last time they were the same bags, and he knew nothing of it.  He said too, that they are only going to be selling the big bags. I wanted to try the small ones first to make sure it would agree this time with my dogs.
Yes, there is a UPC code, I forgot to add that before.  the kibbles look ok, they all look the same color and not different size, in the first bag.
Oh dear now I'm worried. I had it with these holistic companies.  I'm trying to feed top quality, either it doesn't agree with Dusty or there's something wrong with the food. I'm close to SD or Eukanuba right now and I don't want to do that.
Thanks for replying.  What do you feed your dog?[:)]

this Bison formula is sort of dark brown color, with specs in it.

I really don't think there's anything to be worried about. It's most likely just fine. Smell it and trust your dogs if they try to tell you something's wrong with it.

I'm feeding Canidae and EVO canned currently, although I'm on a neverending search to find something that the dogs like that they do really well on. They look great on Canidae, but they don't get excited about dinnertime like they did about the Timberwolf. They did love TO's taste, though I never saw any improvements with them on it. I'm going to try something else next - just don't know what yet, probably Nature's Variety Venison. When the puppy is grown I'm going to try everybody on Raw Instinct.

Thanks. I'm on the same neverending search too. We'll have to keep each other posted.[:)]

I have never seen the "weird" bags, but when I bought a 4lb TO wild and natural it was the same greenish pattern as the big bags so something is def. wrong with the ones you ordered.  It's just something I wouldn't want to mess with, IMO. (like Sooner)

I also felt like I have "had it" with some of the holistic companies...I feed Royal Canin now and feel much more comfortable about the consistency of the formulas.  I recently had an issue with the EVO cat formula that I fed to my ferrets.  The look, texture and smell of the kibbles were different from the first bag., second and third that I purchased!......both well within the expiration date and nothing wrong with the outside of the bags....also bought it from a reputable store (phydeaux).  I sinced switched them to Totally Ferret, a more well-established company.

    *sigh*

yes, I know, these bags are different  and I am concerened, even though I probably shouldn't be. I did question the shop owner, he is a real nice guy, anyhow he said the distributor was just in there and they are doing away with the small bags. Don't know if that applies to this area or everywhere.  He didn't know what I was talikng about, he just thought the bags were different. He can't get any answers from TO about anything he said.  It's not selling real well  here. Apparently they are going to raise their prices by 15%.

HA, there IS something wrong with that food. They won't touch it. Even Peanut, and he eats anything. I don't know, my trust in some of these companies is dwindling. Any advice?

Return it to where you got it and try something else.

After we finish up the 2 20lb bags of bil-jac dry, I'm rotating back to PetGuard Lifespan.  I get it at my health food store, they special order it and it's very fresh. They love it.  Medium sized kibbles but my minpin and bichons do just find crunching them.

Good luck in your food search :)

Don't give up. There is something out there that will work, I'm sorry you and Dusty have to suffer through finding it though.

I'm glad you trust the dogs noses about the TO, if that food is old or has been stored improperly the fats may be rancid or something else could be off with it. Apparently a lot of dogs quit or got reluctant about eating the Diamond foods around the time of the recall. Their noses are so sensitive.

I'm also following your thread on the ODO board - it may be a matter of finding *the* prescription food that works for him or homecooking is a good idea as well if you're able. You have to find what works for him, whether that is holistic, homemade, prescription, or grocery store food. Maybe you could add more veggie bulk to the homemade to help fill him up?

There are good holistic companies out there - Eagle Pack comes to mind as one who produces their own foods in their own plants and has a good reputation for customer service. I personally had a bad experience with them, pieces of one formula mixed in with another and when I questioned them about it I received what I felt was an apathetic answer, then when I replied to that for clarification I received no response whatsoever. But I know from reading the posts here that they generally have a very good customer service reputation and their foods have a good reputation. Maybe someone who feeds it could recommend a good formula for a dog prone to digestive upset.

    Good luck! [:)]

Thanks, Kelly. I did go buy some cans of i/d for a few days.  Willowchow told me that's what she used. So I'll settle things down. I did order the Urban Wolf pre-mix today, that has worked, the only downfall is that Dusty is still hungry despite how much I'll feed. So I will have to find a good quality kibble maybe for nightime, around 8:00 he stars whining for a kibble. I had tried Eagle Pack before, and the same thing that happened to you, happened to me, coincidental, huh? Someone mentioned to me PetGuard, ingredients looked ok, till the corn.
The marrow bones probably would curb the hunger at night but it's hard to find them with all the meat cut off, as I can't give him raw. Plus all 3 dogs absolutely go nuts at each other. Dusty thinks everything is just for him! He doesn't share very well.
Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks for always helping me out, I appreciate it.
