    Introducing new food

Wanted to get an idea of how's the best way to introduce new food. I'm switching from Innova to Canida.  When I originally switched from another food to Innova I was told to do the following: (fyi - i feed 3/4 to 1 cup in the morning and in the afternoon)  1/4 cup of new food mixed with 3/4 cup of old food for 1 week, then 1/2 cup of new and old for the 2nd week then 3/4 cup new and 1/4 old for the third week then all new food after that.  Does this seem right?

    You have the right idea.

Since you are switching from one PREMIUM food to another, you can probably do the switch a little faster than the norm. I would say 1/3 - 2/3 - FULL ..... Depending if you are going with the simple Canidae formula like Chicken and Rice, you can probably do it all at one time since the new food is very digestable :)

I'm switching from Innova adult dry kibble to Canidae All Life Stages dry kibble. Reason being since he's been on Innova his stools are still very soft after being on it for almost 3 months.  Maybe I won't take so long to switch over.  I'll do the 1/3 - 2/3 - Full.  Thanks

Have another question.  When feeding Innova I went on their website and it gave a great calculator in determining exactly how much should be fed depending on the dogs weight and age.  Now for Canidae it only gives a vague "1 to 2 cups per day for a dog between 25-50lbs".  Does anyone know of a website that gives a better guideline for feeding Canidae All Life Stages?  Thanks

Personally I've found the feeding guidelines on Canidae to be pretty accurate. I'd go with 1 cup - 25 lbs, 2 cups - 50 lbs, and find where your dog is in between there and add a little if you aren't adding any other extras since he's a puppy. Or you can use the kcal calculatorhttp://www.mycockerspaniel.com/mer.htm ...Canidae has 468/cup. Good luck, hope this food works out better for Boomer!

If you are having stool problems with Innova Adult, you may want to choose Canidae Chicken and Rice.... you should have good results with this formula. Some formulas are just "too rich" for certain dogs,  the less ingredients, the easier it is to digest which results in better stools :) I would definately recommend it for you :)
