3 month old pup - liquid diet info needed.

I am anticipating the arrival of a rescued pup this weekend. He is currently under vet care out of my area. When I pick him up I will be speaking to the vet overseeing his care, and he will remain under my vets supervision while recovering from a shattered pelvis and broken leg.

I am looking for information on feeding him - he's a 3 month old rottie mix (most likely) - a liquid diet as required for the next 5 weeks.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Can you get canned food and make it very watery?

I was going to suggest canned or dry soaked and blended with a debilitated animal supplement.

When foster pups are weaning I powder the kibble, in the blender, heat the water/or replacement bitches milk formula and THEN add the powder to it.  You can control just how soupy it is this way, and it's very easy for the pups to eat, so would think that it would be for a dog who can't move his poor little jaw.

When my dane broke her jaw the vet told us just to put water in the canned dog food.  So she didn't have to open her mouth which she couldn't.

Maybe it's me, but I didn't see anything in the original post about not being able to move the jaw  [8|]
Why is the little fella going to be on a liquid diet? Would it be that it would be easier for him to "do his business"?

As far as the liquid diet suggestions, I think Glenda has a great idea! You are sure to get all the needed nutrients AND the extra calcium, calories, and fat from the milk replacer.

Good luck with your new furred family member!
