Weight gain suggestions for Siberian/food switch?

Weight gain suggestions for Siberian/food switch?

Currently I feed Snickers and Oliver Solid Gold and they do great. The new dog Khoale has been eatting it and can't seem to eat/want to eat enough to gain weight. She was 33 pounds when I brought her home and the vet said she needed to gain five pounds. This was three months ago, Last week she was down to 32.3 pounds even when with me feeding her more than Snickers who is 48 pounds! I've upped her food to 1.5 cups twice a day and her stool is loose and she won't finish the food... seems to be eatting less than before! I often add things like raw egg, solid gold green tripe, wellness canned etc.
Any suggestions on a food that might work better for a Siberian? Something that might help her gain weight?
Oh, and she has been wormed with Panacur just to make sure that's not the issue.

I would try Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken.  It says it is for small to medium breeds since they changed the packaging, but before it was an all life stages and the ingredients haven't changed since then, just the packaging.

I have a long story to go along with why I recommend EP Chicken Holistic for weight gain, but I'll give you the short hand version.  I used to work for a pet product store.  Within one month 3 people came in with underweight dogs.  They were all feeding Pedigree.  First I recommended Diamond Performance, which is better than Pedigree with more calories than Pedigree, but not as expensive as a premium food.  All 3 came back in saying it didn't work.  I then thought, well, maybe these dogs, 2 were pitties, 1 was a rottie, need more than the average amount of nutrition.  I talked them into Eagle Pack Chicken Holistic.  It worked.  From then on, every time someone asked about a weight gain food I recommended Eagle Pack Chicken Holistic.  Although you are already feeding a good food, the way I see it is some dogs need more than the average nutrition and EP Chicken Holistic, although it may not have more calories than say Diamond, it has more nutrition.   My experience with Solid Gold is that all of their formulas are designed to keep a dog thin.

I used to feed Solid Gold to my dog, I still do to my cat.  I stopped feeding it to my dog (I fed the wee bits formula) because he was loosing weight.  I feed it to my cat because I want to keep her thin.  When I've switched foods in the past, she puts on weight.  So Solid Gold Cat food keeps her waddle at bay.

Just look for foods with higher protein and fat content.

    Innova
    EVO
    Natures variety
    Orijen
    Timberwolf Organics

There's probably loads more, but that's all i can think of off the top of my head.

Keep adding the green tripe,if you can find the fresh raw stuff, even better.GT is eesential for underweight/malnourished dogs IMO.

Where would I find raw fresh green tripe? I've only seen that bleached stuff in the butcher section of the supermarket.
She used to eat a similar line of food to Eagle Pack at the sled dog kennel so I got some of that (Eagle Pack Holistic chicken).... maybe I can up the protein with some raw turkey/beef mixed in in addition to the tripe. She ate her whole bowl of Eagle today, dry which she would never do with Solid Gold. Maybe this is the ticket. i have to find something i can get up where I live in Northern NH as well... I'm currently visiting VA. I can't get TO and it's a little too pricey for me until my job starts in August but if the Eagle doesn't work I know EVO or Innova is available as well up by me.
    Thanks for all the suggestions!

Royal Canin foods and Bil-Jac are good for getting weight on a dog if it is a serious situation.  Once they are at the weight needed, you can switch off to a "normal" food (aka not so dense/calorie-packed).  However, how underweight is the dog exactly?  Some vets may say they need to gain weight but it may be better if they are on the lighter side.

She is pretty underweight though not dangerously so... even for my dogs (I keep them all quite trim since my other two have hip issues) Even with her thick coat all of her ribs, spine and hips can be felt quite prominently. I would be happier if there was a thin layer of fat between her hip bones and i could only feel the first 3-4 ribs I think.

Isn't she an adult? If you want to stick with ths Solid Gold line, why not try Barking At The Moon? That's super high calorie, high protein, grain free. I'm thinking that'd be at the same store as the regular SG.... I'm sure you're willing to travel, but it's probably much easier if you don't have to (I'd rather not drive store to store). Anybody that sells raw food for dogs should have tripe. I've had good success with the canned, but the raw stinks less, they like it more, and they look better on it. Eggs are great, for weight gain (adding an egg a day helped Em out, a lot). Adding something like Prozyme might help, too. When Emma was super thin, all of those helped. The thing that made the real difference was adding a tablespoon of aloe vera juice to her food every night. She started eating HALF of her food, and gaining weight. The vet thinks there was something like a mild case of IBD underlying the allergies and difficulty keeping weight.

The problem with the grain free foods is they seem to have the opposite effect on underweight dogs as you would think.  Despite the high amount of calories, they don't get enough "energy" from the food and thus don't convert enough of the extra protein to fat.  Carbohydrates are very necessary for dogs who are extremely active or who are under weight.  Don't get me wrong, they still need a good amount of protein, they just need carbs as well.

Any possibility of adding in a third meal per day? That helped with Floyd who was pretty scrawny until he was about six.

So true. One of my show males lost weight on the grain free foods, he needed to gain weight. Bil Jac will put the weight on, Royal Canin is also good. This boy of mine has to eat a huge amount of EP Holistic chicken to maintain his weight. I have had very good success with Back to Basics to put weight on dogs.

That's interesting to hear. What about puppy/performance/small breed formulas? Hundchenflocken, Mmillenia, or Wee Bits???

I agree.  Three meals a day has always worked for my dogs who need to gain weight.

papillon is right about the bil jac.  It really porked up one of my dogs and fast, too.  They seem to love it.  We fed our bridge girl bil jac when she was very sick; only food she wanted to eat.

Oh, yah.  Probiotics help with weight gain.  Try Eagle Pack's Stomach Remedy, but keep it refrigerated.
