Blackwatch feed program

    Blackwatch feed program

What do any of you think of the Blackwatch feed program?
This always seemed a little like overkill, so many products to add, but still sort of curious if anyone follows this, and opinions. I only add some raw meat, yogurt, and Salmon oil to my dogs kibble. I am currently feeding Naure's Logic to most of my dogs, Eagle to a few of them.

Your dog is so gorgeous I wouldn't change a thing!
Something about what the Great Dane lady says just doesn't make sense to me.  She recommends her brands but then states the need to add all this to them?

It definitely seems like overkill to me...

    LOL Good point!

I personally think enzymes are a joke for a healthy dog with a functional pancreas...
And who here would give an antifungal/antibacterial prescribed by a vet for the lifetime of their pet???  Then why use the pH drop things?

There is also no listing of ingredients, and whenever one product is a "magical" cure for multiple diseases, I really think its time to run the other way because you're getting propaganda'd right out of your cash...

I really can't believe that someone who is so seemingly knowledgable would continue to support such obviously (to me) info-mercial type products.

Before Jessie started immunotherapy for her allergies, I tried various natural supplements to see if they would help; including  Nzymes. The testimonials on the website are very appealing, but I after using a large jar of the stuff, it did nothing for her. Also, systemic yeast infections are rare, so the great dane lady's information about them and using Ox-E Drops is inaccurate. I do support feeding a good quality food and like her list of recommended brands, and also agree with adding some canned, raw, or cooked food to kibble. I started giving Jessie a joint supplement when she was six because I read about research that showed it delayed the onset of arthritis in people; my vet told me the same thing regarding dogs last summer, so I agree with that but don't use the Flexicose. Jessie had her stomach x-rayed last Monday to see why it was painful to the touch, and a bonus of the x-rays was learning her hips are perfect and show no signs of arthritis. I think that's good for an eight and a half year old dog her size, and while thre's no proof the joint supplements helped, I'm glad I give them to her.

Thanks! I don;t know why I am always thinking maybe I should be adding something different, or better to my dogs food, but they have great coats and muscle tone without all the extras on her site, and are all healthy. I'll stick to what I have been doing.

This is sort of what I was thinking. She does have some very good info. on her site, but it does rather come off as an infomercial with many of the products she is endorsing.

Dont' know if you have ever read her website and her reasons for these supliments or not....but if not,, you should. She has explainations for her suggestions.   And the biggest thing she says is that she believes that by using these products that she had produced healthier dogs.  She was a Dane person...but now raises Pugs also,  I believe.
We tried the Oxy Drops for Ollie and they didn't seem to help with Ollies allergies...however...we have a friend who's mother has been using a different product but the same thing...for years and swears by them.
We also went thru several bottles of Nzymes for Ollie. Did they work?? I don't know but he did get better while on them...and eventually we stopped using them.  He had gone thru other things at the same time...such as allergy shots..so how do you know when your doing a few things at the same time.
I do believe in the probiotics..but use a different brand. And of course many of us use the Glucosamine products.
Some people believe in products such as what she recommends...just look at Prevention Magazine!

Okay believe it or not... I did all this at one time.... TALK about drive me nuts... adding all the stuff and even the oxy drops to their water..... And I use to feed Eagle pack food.

The only thing that I swear by on her site is the way to treat Giardia. She is 100 perecent right on about how to treat it and get rid of it.. She knows her S**T on that subject...[sm=biggrin.gif] I had such a time getting rid of Giradia in my dogs and with her directions she was right on.... so I book marked that so I can always have it and post it for others as well.

The Great Dane Lady is my doggy Bible. I have to admit.   Having a Great Dane---knowing how many she has raised, there is no one that I would rather listen to.  I honestly never even read her Blackwatch program though....Oh I started to...but  I never had a dog that I started feeding as a pup...since I've known this website.   BUT I believe in her...I believe in what she has to say, and I go to read things off of her site often.  She has also helped Ollie in a personal way by personally answering email.   She also has a few articles for humans on her site.
And having a Great Dane...I would not switch from Eagle Pack....its the food that has been trial tested for giant breeds.

[sm=soap box.gif] I really don't understand the pushing of enzymes and probiotics. IMO, if they have to be added in any significant amount, for any length of time, there's either something wrong with the dog, the food, or the combination of the two. Find the issue instead of covering it up!

I used to like her stuff, but her website has been getting nuttier and weirder as time goes on. Come on, yeast overgrowth doesn't cause everything....
    • Gold Top Dog
I like a lot of the info on her website. Some of it does seem like overkill, but if I had a seriously sick dog I might very well try some of her feed programs. Personally I have had at times systemic yeast problems in myself and I have used grapefruit seed extract and it has worked wonders. There is truth that certain foods cause yeast flair-ups in the body, since I've experienced it firsthand, and if you have a breed that is already prone to certain yeasty issues, like say cocker spaniels and their ear problems, I think it's worth trying out some of the natural solutions that she promotes. If they don't work, then no harm done.

For years, I have gone on and off of health food kicks,,vitamin kicks and different things I have read or seen on TV.  During one of those times...we got a hold of some information about what yeast does to your body.  Human body,,,not dogs.   The list of problems that it could cause was unbelievably long.  Both my friend and my sister are on medicine to help control yeast...to stop many of their symptoms.   I think for me since many human doctors agree to this thought, I sure can give Linda credit for studying it.
Here is a good link to read...written by a doctor on the subject.  [linkhttp://www.herbldoc.com/ENZCANALR.htm]http://www.herbldoc.com/ENZCANALR.htm[/link]

I use probiotics every day for Bubblegum. Not to cover anything up, or not because of anything wrong that I want them to fix...but rather to prevent problems.  For one, I am hoping that probiotics help to keep her from bloating. IF she never bloats,,,will I know that it is because I gave them to her? No,,,I won't know...but why take a chance?  I up them when she is under stress and when she eats certain things such as raw meat and toxins such as Heartworm Prevention.
