Natural Balance 'mystery kibbles?!'

Natural Balance's customer service (In my experinence) is awesome. There's a lady named Jenifer who will reply to your email or call you within 24 hours. Other dog food comanies I've talked to didn't get back to me for maybe a week or so?

Now, I'm worried because I hear Natural Balance is produced by Diamond (to me it doesn't sound like their quality control is as high as they claim?)

I wouldn't doubt anything that's manufactured by Diamond being contaminated with other kibble or who knows what. They have the poorest record for quality control ever.  Obviously you haven't seen the FDA report done on them after the aflatoxin incident. They were cited for something like 50 violations.

If NB has separate quality control they're not doing a very good job. That DEFINITELY looks like kitty kibble. And your dog's dry coat is because there is now more potato than protein in that kibble. They can truely admit that they DIDN'T change the ingredients. What they did was change the ORDER of the ingredients. So now they're selling a lesser quality product.  Franky I had problems with NB when I fed it. Twice got bad food, once stale and another time completely rancid. Granted they have good CS but I couldn't trust the quality of the food and paper bags SUCK for packaging foods that have natural preservatives because they are air permeable.

I feed the Venison and Rice kibble (which has always been mostly rice, thanks to ingredient splitting) but they must have changed it so all their allergy formulas are mostly carbs (Fish and sweet potato became Sweet potato and Fish; sweet potato is the first ingredient now, and it's probably the same with the Duck and Potato) I'm probably going to switch brands, but it's hard to find one that she'd do good on since she's allergic to Chicken, and possibly Duck and Turkey too, plus Terriers are prone to dry coats. When is the Innova EVO Red meat coming out? Does Pet Supplies Plus carry Innova, I can't remember?

I have my terriers on Timberwolf Wilderness Elk and I rotate it w/Ocean Blue, Dakota Bison and Black Forest ( Venison/Lamb)  They both have the softest silkiest coats you've ever seen.

Susan - where do you buy Timberwolf Organics?  Do you have to order it?  I tried to go to their website but it isn't working.  It looks like a really good food, but I can't afford to pay shipping, so I'd like to see if it's sold anywhere near me.

    Thanks!

Aren't you concerned that Timberwolf is manufactured by Diamond?

Man - this all makes my head spin [:(].  I didn't know it was manufactured by Diamond, and I do care.  However, I guess Natural Balance, which I use now, is also made in their plant.  Who would've EVER thought that feeding your dogs could be this complicated *sigh*.

This is the only "proof" I've seen, but I don't have any reason not to believe it.

And that fact makes me wonder about the claim TO makes on their site that their food is made in their APHIS plant:

" Also, our plant is one of the few plants that is APHIS (Agricultural Plant Health Inspection Service) certified or the newer tougher Category III level certified. APHIS helps manufacturing plants meet all certification requirements for export for example, to the EC which is extremely difficult because of their stringent requirements of certification of all ingredients."

I am very disappointed that NB has changed their formuals.  The very reason I like to feed a single source protein/single source carb is so that I know that meat protein is the main ingredient.  I'm taking it out of my rotation.  Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Looks like mine will be getting either California Natural Lamb and Rice or Canidae Chicken and Rice.  Good think my dogs are OK with rice...
