I thought the kibbles were greasy, too. There must have been a formula change, but none that I notice (then again, I threw away the bag). It's funny they're close together like that, too (I live in Mansfield/Arlington). Maybe we bought the bags at the same place/maybe the ;plant that distributes to the DFW/TX area is the only one with the problem?

I'd definitely email, and attach that photo. NB is very good, usually

Yeah, I would not feed it until I got a straight answer from them.  I mean really, it seems that any company changing any formula would at least put it on the package so one would know.  I would certainly get in touch with them.  Whether it is made at the Diamond plant or not is immaterial to me..... if it was made in heaven it is immaterial to me,,,I would want to know about the change before feeding the food, and I think its only proper for the company to do that.

    Hi,
I have been feeding Natural Balance Vension and Brown Rice too.  I buy the small bags though as my guys are tiny.  I havent noticed any change in the food as of yet.  I hope to heck they didn't change the formula, my allergy dog is doing GREAT on it.  The only difference between bags I notice is the colour of the kibble because they do not use dyes so sometimes it is darker or lighter.  That definitly does look like cat food though.  Has your dog been sick before you noticed the difference in the kibble?

My dog wasn't sick before or after, but I had to sift through the whole bag to get all the cat food out. But if someone weren't paying attention, it could be a problem (esp. since this is an ALLERGY formula.) The kibble may vary a bit, but the new stuff is much more greasy and darker/burnt looking compared to my last few bags (which didn't have the cat food kibbles in it; and I've been feeding it for about 6 months.)

I was told by one of the techs at my vet's that cat food can change the results of blood work in a dog.  Now, I have now idea what it would do, but that is what I was told.   So you sure don't wan't cat food mixed in with dog food.

Cat food usually has a higher level of protein and ash than dog food.

Nutro Natural Choice and Natural Balance are two different foods. Nutro is made at it's own company plant in California and has been since 1926.

Preliminary results from the same lot production of the suspected bag show no problems with the food. They have collected samples of the owner's food to test that. An old boxer and a mini-schnauzer ate from the same bag on a Friday. Within 3 hours, the boxer was seizing. By Saturday morning, he was euthanized. The mini-schnauzer had a seizure on the following Monday, 3 days later, and I don't know if it was eating that food on Monday. If it was something immediately in the food, you would think it would have seized faster than the boxer, being a smaller dog.

Stomach contents were supposed to have been sent to a testing facility and no one, to date, has offered to state which MSU she was talking about, which is suspicious. In the meantime, no one else has reported any problems with Nutro. The bag I have was bought at about the same time in a different part of Texas and I haven't had any problems.

The story ends with her buying a grinder and jumping in to raw completely.

We're still awaiting test results. The owner has a contact addy in Conroe, Tx, right next to Houston.

I still say that no way in the world would i feed my dog food that has changed in the package,,,,,with no warning or notice that it is "new and improved" or anything what so ever. You don't know what might have happened, maybe a "sicko" doing something,,,,,,I would call that company or email or write and ask why all of a sudden the different shapes in my bag!   I wouldn't throw it out, I would be cautious and find out whats up before feeding it to my dog!

Thanks Ron. I had the two confused and thought they were the same manufacturer.

That is the same story I heard and was on a thread not long ago which I could not drag back up no matter what I did. But I also had concerns since I was feeding some rescues that very same food and a few of my clients as well. This is why I contacted the manufacturer in regard to that particular batch or lot number. On the first page of this thread was their reply to me in regard to the *contanminated* food. None of mine ever came down sick either and neither did any of my clients that are feeding the same.
If you hear of the results, would you kindly PM me or post on the forum with the same please.
Thanks again Ron, you ARE my HERO.

    Thanks for finding that link.

She is a cutie pie for sure. Has a great sense of humor too. Great fun with this dog every time I watch her. Cannot wait for June to come around either. She is one of the dogs I take to the beach for hours of fun in the sun and sand.

    Thanks again.[:D]

Well, I did notice that now the first ingredient (in the duck and potato one) is:

Potatoes, (followed by), duck and duck meal.
It used to be (back before I had a problem) the ingredients were: Duck meal, duck, potatoes.

I don't know if it has anything to do with it- who knows. I will probably have to switch foods again. [sm=uhoh.gif]
The company swears up and down that they haven't changed any formulas. (except for taking out the metanodine (sp?) At least with the Duck/Potato. I'd like to see what they say about the kitty kibbles though.

I think I'll be switching foods too. It's about time for a rotation, and the new stuff has been making my dog's coat really dry (like it was on Innova [:(]), which is why I switched her in the first place. I've yet to write NB, but I probably will later today.
