Engery bar

    Engery bar

I bought Blue a engergy bar for him to see if he liked it and to see if there was a change. Well if I ever get these things again I'm only giving him half and not when we have my 7 month old niece around.

So what you think of these ingredients.

Wheat flour, poultry fat (preserved with natural mixed tocopherols, citric acid and rosemary oil), propylene glicol, poultry by products meal, sugar, rice flour, soybean meal, poultry liver, egg powder, flaxseed, salt (NaCl), dicalcium phosphate, vitamin A, dicalcium phosphate, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin B12.

I'm still new at picking out really good treats for him. One of these days I'll get to the point when I know what is good treats or not

Gosh, how do I say this without sounding mean?

    BLECH!!!

Honestly I don't see a darned thing in there that would give him ENERGY....maybe a sugar high, but..............

I thought so too the more I kept coming home I thought that didn't sound good or that. I think it was more a sugar high racing around the house and five mintues later he is back to being passed out on the floor. Oh well at least he enjoyed his P. Nutters from Old Mother Hubbard more then that or those yummy liver treats.

Which reminds me how long should I keep the liver treats around before they get old and nasty?

You've got them in the freezer, right?  They'll keep for about a week in the fridge and practically forever in the freezer.  Have you tried the Innova health bars?

Nope their in the fridge I got another day or two before they are a week old maybe I should stick them in the freezer now. Nope haven't tried the Innova health bars. Basically Blue's treats are what ever I decided to whip up in my cookbook for dogs, anything in the animal recipe section, Three dog backery, and now old mother hubbard. Those are next on my list to try for him. Hope they do fine for him since he had an upset tummy the whole time he was on Innova and Evo when I finally buy some.

I double the "UGH" on those energy bar ingredients.  They're REALLY bad.

If you want healthy store-bought treats that are easy to come by stick w/the Mother Hubbards and you can try any of these :

Natural Balance duck & potato snacks
Cloud Star Buddy Biscuits ( 7 yummy flavors )
    California Natural Health Bars
Vital Life Natural Biscuits ( 3 great flavors )
Blue Dog Bakery dog biscuits ( just like homemade cookies )
Health Pro dog biscuits (  2 kinds and about 7 flavors )
    Newman's Own Organics dog biscuits

All of these have completely all natural , holistic, healthy ingredients and are easy to find at some supermarkets, PetsMart, Petco, Pet Supplies Plus and some mom & pop type pet supply stores.

Still... the best deal is to make your own.  I keep about 8 different kinds of organic flours, fresh herbs, different expeller-pressed oils and things like ground flaxseed on hand.  Then I add fresh meats, fish, veggies or fruits and things like cheese, yogurt, cottage or cream cheese.  When I make home made biscuits my dogs will turn their nose up at any store-bought biscuit, no matter how good. They prefer home made.
