Eukanuba?

Eagle Pack is a good food.  But, you might want to start them on the non holistic line they've got.
    • Gold Top Dog
About the migrade food - what do you mean? Does that mean they will like it?

It seems the higher the quality food you go,the less flavor enhancers, sugars, salts etc are in the food,if added at all, what you get is au natural type food.As you start going down the rung of quality foods, the more enhancers are added, until you get all the way down to kibble n bits,ol roy etc which are chock full of colours, flavours, sugar, salt and crap!

If you choose a food somewhere in the middle such as euk, which contain a medium of amount of these ingredients, you might just find something your dog will like??

Lordy i've probably confused you even more now [&o] Someone will be on soon who can explain this much better than i [:D]

As for the eagle pack holistic,i dont know..... When i tried it once my dogs wernt real keen on it and it smelt really grainy.Although after reading all of these testimonials i might give it another try.

Thanks. I'm just really tired of wasting money.. and I'd love to have something I could just go pick up at Petco instead of having to order online. I basically pay double with those shipping prices sometimes.. But I do understand what you were saying about the line of foods, lol. Should I try the Euk? But I dont have all the same breed of dogs and their food isn't ALS, so that doesn't really make it easy on me.

You could get Natural Balance at Petco.  The allergy formulas are very simple and I think you'd have good luck with them.

    and their food isn't ALS,

You seem to be really hung up on puppy,ALS,adult food etc etc. IMHO you are making things harder for yourself than need be.

Your dogs are all small,so you can feed them all puppy, adult or ALS,doesnt really matter.

In my honest opinion i would give the euk a miss, you can return it to the store.Give Lori's advice a go and pick up some Natural Balance from petco. Most dogs i know love NB.
Whichever food you go with, you can always add some canned food or cooked/raw meat to it,it's healthy for the dogs and makes their boring dry food taste 100 times better. Bake some chicken liver in the oven on low for a few hours and grate a tsp of that in with their dry food,i bet they'll go nuts over it,no matter which brand of kibble you mix it in to.

ETA: Royal canin mini junior is supposed to be very, very palatable. You could do better(but whats the point if they wont eat it),but you could do much worse.. RC is available nearly everywhere!

You've probably already said..But is zero in your care too,or is he the one that belongs to your boyfriend? What does he eat,is he a good eater?

For a treat, I but some canned Alaska Salmon that is used for Salmon loaf, and stiur about 1-2 tablespoons into the kibble . The dogs love it and it adds protein.  I have fed my dog Natural Balance and Canidae and now EVO LF, and my dog likes them just fine, plain.

Am I the ONLY one on the face of the planet whose dogs eat what they are given, WHEN they are given it?  They *might* turn their noses up at something like P[:'(]digr[:'(][:'(], but they would do so knowing that they weren't gonna get fed until the next time to eat, so not likely.

I've been told that GSD's are picky eaters with sensitive tummies.  Not so much here.
    • Gold Top Dog
I posted this on the other thread - I fed my dog who is picky with kibble Eagle Pack Holistic chicken for the first time and she scarfed it down.  The food smelled very potent to me in the bag, almost like a fish smell.  The only other kibble she went nuts for is Natural Balance.  My advice would be to try one of these and see what happens.  If they are still turning their noses up, add a little bit of warm water.  This has worked to get Zoe to finish up the rest of the bag of Innova which she started turning her nose up at.  I personally would advise against trying a food with flavor enhancers (Royal Canin etc) because once you do that you will have a really hard time upgrading to a better food unless that is want to want to feed long term.

My dogs get fed twice daily and sometimes they'll walk away from their dish.  I just pick it up in 10 minutes if it is not eaten and usually they're ready to eat at the next feeding.  I've found, changing foods makes things worse and causes human frustration.  I do rotate brands a few times a year, though.
    • Gold Top Dog
I also rotate.  But, if they don't eat what is in their bowl, they don't eat.  I'm not about to add toppers or in any way try to enhance the food.  They eat or they do without.  I am not a short order cook....didn't do that with my children or picky eater hubby, who is no longer picky, and I'm not gonna do it with my dogs.

I do homecook tho, so they are getting the fresh ingredients for dinner.

    Thanks. [:)] I wasn't sure if it was okay to feed them all a puppy formula or an adult formula. I think if I do though, I'll do with the puppy. (I think I did post about this once and people said it was okay but the puppy formula as more stuff in it adults sometimes don't need.) Anyway, Zero is in my boyfriend's care. I'd really like to change him over to whatever food my dogs eat such as Bil-Jack or Natural Balance or anything. He's currently eating Iams Puppy Large Breed and he's not a picky eater at all. The only one of my picky eaters is Pedro. Chico and TJ will just about eat anything that doesn't eat them first, lol but TJ wouldn't touch the Canidae. I'm going to go to Petco in a little bit and look around. So the three foods that would probably work;

    - Natural Balance
    - Bil-Jac
    - Royal Canin (but I'm not sure about this since it has corn gluten meal in it.. [&:])

NOPE.  Mine do.  Funny thing, i posted a question on one of my golden retriever forums earlier this week  about picky eaters. I asked about changing foods, if their dogs got bored, etc with the same food every day.  Believe it or not every single answer, about 25 of them, said no.  most had fed their golden only one brand of food it's entire life.  one posted she--- had a i am thinking she said shihtzu  few years ago that was picky, but her goldens are not.  Said she thought maybe it was her fault because if the dog didn't want to eat, she would add stuff, etc and the dog would eat and she felt the dog had learned that by refusing to eat, she would get
    other stuff.

A few like me do add some home cooked to one meal.  Some add some canned, some add nothing.  But it was all the same, our dogs ate with additions or without additions, being on the same food didn't bother them at all.  It was of the general conclusion that most picky dogs become that way because their owners tned to fret if they aren't eating and try different things---other than "you will eat or be hungry until you decide to eat" route.   mine have never turned up their noses at their regular food---Buck didn't like the SD k/d and would skip breakfast from tiem to time, and KayCee didn't care for the SD r/d, but did eat every meal, only not with her usual gusto.

Am I the ONLY one on the face of the planet whose dogs eat what they are given, WHEN they are given it?

I've been trying this for weeks now. Pedro won't even eat half of what's in his bowl (½ cup) and I know he's starving because his belly is growling. Eventually I knew he was just going to starve himself because it's obvious he's losing a little weight. For dogs who are used to the food and/or who like it, I can see how this works but I know some dogs who just would honestly starve than to eat that 'crap' lol.

    * EDIT; I also never added 'toppings' to his food. I was going to add baby food (like the meat kind) to his TWO when he really just wouldn't eat but I didn't want him to get the impression he would get it all the time, so I never did it. I did once put a little water on it to soften it up and he seemed okay with the idea, but he didn't seem to like the food better.

Here's what I know from my experience. I did the tough love route for MONTHS with Gingerbread and gave him only kibble. He was underweight and would throw up bile from an empty stomach. [:(] Since I started mixing in canned (about a year ago), he eats much better and is a healthy weight.

Redlegos- If I were you I would try Natural Balance Ultra Premium. It's for all life stages, is supposed to be palatable and I'm sure having it available near you is a huge plus!

p.s. thanks for fixing the font size! [:)]
