Bully sticks?

    Bully sticks?

    What is a bully stick?
    • Gold Top Dog
    It's a....well, it's a dried length of cow penis, I believe. [:D;Pepito loooves them.

No way. Are you pulling my leg? Someone directed me to a site that sells them, but the site never actually said what they were---just 100% natural, blah blah blah stuff.

No wonder the site was so emphatic about "no smell" sticks.

Anyone want to share their experience with them?

I can't imagine the look on DH's face if I told him I was giving our dog a dried penis to chew on...does that video show still offer a $25,000 cash prize?

Nope, I'm serious...that's what they're made of, at least that's what I've been told by several people they're made of. [:D;Pepito, my chi, eats them all the time...it's the only thing other than raw bones he'll chew on. He loves them, and I haven't had a problem with them staining the carpet or anything.

they are awesome!  They really don't even look like what they are, I have found the smell to actually be minimal, the pups love them and they don't give my pups soft stool after consuming them.  I usually get the 36 inch ones and DH cuts them in half or thirds for the pups. Whenever possible I get the "jumbo" ones for them since they are far thicker and take longer to chew on them. I find the braided ones don't last long though...

Here is a website that tells you more...

So, that's what a bully stick is.

Niko, my 6 month-old lab (that just had a bad reaction with compressed rawhide AND HE WON'T BE GETTING THAT ANYMORE), got a couple of bully sticks and some other stuff (samples from Redbarn Premium Pet Products company). I have not given any of it to him because his bad rawhide episode.  When I got them from Redbarn, I could figure it what it was and all of you are right, they don't smell.

Do you know how it is made?  What kind of preservatives used?  I checked the company that sent the sample for Niko but I couldn't find information.  On their website, it didn't explain what bully stick was.

I am inclined to throw all of these stuff away (I didn't spend a dime on any of these as they were samples) after he vomited and had diarrhea chewing compressed rawhide.

Thanks.  The website at least explains what bully sticks are.  Whey you buy the sticks from them, do they come with label listing the ingredients?

Redbarn website didn't have any explanation at all.  They described them as "natural beef muscles" and I didn't associate the explanation with that muscles!!

    P.S.
This is like rocky mountain oysters.....fancy names.

I have a lot of places that sell them locally so I have never ordered them off this site. They are probably NOT wrapped though.. most bully sticks I see have no wrapping on them.

and yes.. kinda liek rocky nountain oysters [sm=vomit03.gif]

You ought to have seen my husband's reaction to them at the store once I told him what they were (took some convincing before he believed me). He just sort of did the move like once you have walked into a spider web or found a bug on your meal at a restaurant. In fact he did this shaking-quiver thing several times at home whenever the idea crossed his mind! I had a LOT of fun leaving the pet catalog pages open to bully sticks just to freak him out... Makes me chuckle just thinking about it[:D]

    (I am sooo devilish, eh?)

Tom Waits does a hilarious narrative on the bully stick called "Dog Treat."  It's on his latest compilation album---I'll see if I can find the MP3.

the bully sticks i have been getting say they are made of beef tendon. am i getting something different than everyone else?

oh and they are made by merrick.

Real Bully Sticks = bull penis.    Beef tendons are also a common chew treat, but its a misnomer to call them bully sticks.
