So I was shopping on Petfooddirect.com....

and I did not see any warnings about all of the recalls- not only that, I looked for Natural Balance, and their recalled products are still on the site! They are even putting them on sale in many cases! If you click to buy one of the recalled products, a message comes up that says they are "out of stock, due to popular demand". You heard it, popular demand. If you click on the "rain check" button they will notify you as soon as it comes in though.

Either they put those products on sale after the venison and green pea recall, or they did it after the expanded recall to entice people to come back and buy when it is back in stock. Doesn't matter, both are sneaky and underhanded in my opinion.

I agree.  I think there should be an explanation given, but I can understand why a business wouldn't want to do that.  So, then, they could just take the product off the site and not say anythiing at all.  better than "poplular demand"  That's really cheesy and full of bs.   When things start falling apart, then you start to see how people really are and how business are really run.

Breaking Voluntary RecallNews: Thursday, April 26th, 2007
Our canned food manufacturer, American Nutrition, from Ogden Utah, just informed us that they are recalling all canned products made in their plant that contain rice protein concentrate. American Nutrition continued by telling us that they added this ingredient to four of our canned products without our knowledge or consent. The four products involved are:

Chicken Formula Canned Dog Food 13 oz
Lamb Formula Canned Dog Food 13 oz
Beef Formula Canned Dog Food 13 oz
Ocean Fish Formula Canned Cat Food 3 oz & 6 oz

There have been no illnesses reported related to feeding these formulas, however, to comply with the American Nutrition recall of the four products, we are pulling all dates and batches of these four formulas.

All products under the recall have been taken out of stock on the PetFoodDirect.com website and any products have been returned to the manufacturer. Thank You.

I think that's how their system works, that when they pull something out of their system completely, it automatically states that "due to popular demand, etc. etc."

You cant buy it even if you wanted to.

    I personally like petfooddirect.com

Their customer service is good, and I always get my stuff quick and without any issues.

More examples on how they're doing their part... I think this is beyond what many retailers are doing...

    Also on their website:

META, MO (April 27, 2007) - Because of the canned pet food recall initiated by American Nutrition Inc., Diamond Pet Foods has announced it is withdrawing a limited number of canned products manufactured by American Nutrition. This action is limited to three specific canned products:
    * Diamond Lamb & Rice Formula for Dogs 13 oz. cans
    * Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Kitten Formula 5.5 oz. cans
    * Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Puppy Formula 13 oz. cans.

Diamond Pet Foods is taking this voluntary action after learning the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed rice protein concentrate used by American Nutrition contained melamine, a substance not approved for use in food.

No other Diamond brand or Chicken Soup brand canned or dry pet food formulas are affected by the American Nutrition recall.

    Another example:

Nutro Products, along with most dog and cat food manufacturers and retailers, was notified by Menu Foods of a nationwide precautionary recall of wet pet foods.

Menu Foods has indicated that their precautionary recall is limited to "cuts and gravy" style pet food in cans and pouches. Nutro is voluntarily participating in the Menu Foods recall.

Consumers should immediately discontinue feeding these products. Please note that, according to Menu Foods, none of the pet illnesses or deaths reported were related to any of Nutro's products and that Nutro has received no case reports of pet illness or deaths related to this recall. Further, no Nutro dry foods, biscuits, or treats are affected.

It is with an overabundance of caution and care for the health and well-being of our pets that Nutro is taking this action.

All products under the recall have been taken out of stock on the PetFoodDirect.com website and any products with the noted date codes have been returned to the manufacturer, returned products will be refunded: Affected Codes US & Canada: Best By DEC0308 through MAR0709 Date Format: MMMDDYY, where MMM=Month, DD = Day, YY=year
