Natural Balance NEW RECALLS

    • Silver
They're all saying the same thing-American Nutriton has added rice protein concentrate to Blue Buffalo canned, Natural Balance canned, Canine Caviar  and also Chicken Soup canned without consent. Now with this news that Natural Balance 'knew' it was in the cans, I'm not sure who is blaming who anymore or who knew what. Either American Nutrition did something completely unethical or the companies themselves did (by adding it and not stating it).

    Diamond/Chicken Soup:
It should be noted that the products being withdrawn were not formulated or labeled to contain rice protein concentrate. While the FDA is investigating this, current information indicates this error is a result of a manufacturing deviation by American Nutrition

    Blue Buffalo website:
The product tampering came to our attention when American Nutrition, Inc. (ANI), the manufacturer of our canned dog and cat foods and biscuits, informed us that they had been adding rice protein concentrate to our canned formulas without our knowledge or approval. Apparently this has been going on for some time, and ANI only chose to inform us when the FDA began an investigation of their rice protein concentrate supplies.

    Natural Balance website:
Our canned food manufacturer, American Nutrition, from Ogden Utah, just informed us that they are recalling all canned products made in their plant that contain rice protein concentrate. American Nutrition continued by telling us that they added this ingredient to four of our canned products without our knowledge or consent.

    Canine Caviar website:
This unexpected situation is due to the fact that our canned food co-packer was using ingredients that were not authorized by Canine Caviar.

So American Nutritions Inc. website says:

These products represent a small percentage of those manufactured by American Nutrition.  To reiterate, no American Nutrition brands or other products manufactured for other businesses are affected by this recall.
    Do I trust this statement???????????????????????????

So...what, did they just decide to randomly pick Chick lover's/Diamond, Natural Balance, and Blue Buffalo? Did they choose company names out of a hat???
Give me a break. I'm not buying it. What I AM buying is that ANI and all of these companies that used them, are placing the blame on eachother because the longer it sits in "blame limbo", the longer it will take for any legal claims to be settled.

Does anyone have a list of all the brands that American Nutrition makes? This is unbelievable. [8|]

I just want to clarify, Dyan, that I was not snapping on you. [:D]

I quoted you not because of YOU, but because of the statement from ANI. It's ridiculous and BS. Excuse my e-language.

I can say it's wasn't listed.  I've looked at enough of those cans over the years to know it wasn't there.
I'm just so confused.  I'm not sure what to do.  I know if I try to homecook I'm going to end up with issues.  [&:]

Well actually I had a few cans of the Venison formula that I bought a few months ago (I returned them last week). But I was positive that it was listed on there actually, I remember double checking to see if it was on there and it was.

I was just at Pet Co. to return the duck & potato cans.  No way am I trusting this company.  I'm trying Evanger's.  They make their own food and Jake like the Evanger's duck & sweet potato cans.  Wellness won't tell me where they make their 95% meats, so I'm buying the Evanger's 100% meats instead.

Anyway, at Pet Co. in the NB section, all the canned food was gone, except the liver, duck and fish.  And get this, all the dry food was gone too, except the duck, fish and vegeterian.  I'm glad I'm not feeding this food anymore!

Im to the point were Iv about had it also with this company. Im taking the canned food back. I don't trust it.. they recalled all there canned food except Duck and Potato but IM sure that will be next... Im going to start homecooking for awhile. Today I got chicken and also gizzards cooked everything up in the crockpot and the put it in my food processor... Im adding rice and greenbeans. Im really sick of all this crap and Im scared to feed the canned Duck.... This may be a bit more work for me to do for 5 dogs but in the long run I don't care at this point... Im sick of being scared to death by all this crap and not feeling good about what IM giving my dogs.

I have been a real proponent of Natural Balance foods, but today I switched to Canidae.  I don't like a company that can't even label their products correctly.  Some months back I pointed out to NB customer service, that their roll treats stated in big print that  they had no wheat in them, and in the ingredients wheat was on the list. When I called them about it, I was told that they had old packages that they had to use up first before the new correct ones with the correct ingredients would be used. They also changed the formula for Sweet Potato and Fish, and included regular potatos in it that were not mentioned on the label...... This is inexcusable, in my opinion.

I'm done, Canidae all the way.......[;)]

In the Petco I was at this afternoon, they had all  the recalled canned foods still on the shelves.  When you got to the register, and tried to buy it, a recall warning would come up on the register.  Why they just didn't take it off the shelves, is beyond me....

Wal-Mart did the same thing; they said that the manager would have the food taken off the shelves but it was restocked overnight, so they had the scanners reject the recalled food.

That's totally inexcusable to label a product with wheat as wheat free! So they had old packaging and instead of throwing it out or printing stickers with the correct information, they decided to save a buck and risk pet's lives. [&:] That's completely mind boggling for a company that supposedly cares soooo much about animals to do. [&o]

"Please tell us what you think about our company and our products." That's what American Nutrition encourages you to do on their feedback page: http://www.anibrands.com/feedback.htm I just told them exactly what I think and felt much better afterwards---I highly recommend it.
