We ALL knew it was just a matter of time before this affected human food. If animals eat the grain that was contaminated, then the animal becomes contaminated, if we eat the animal that's contaminated, then...VOILA! We're sick as well, right?
[linkhttp://www.eatwild.com,]www.eatwild.com,[/link] HERE I COME!
Has anyone actually stated that it works that way? Animals eat things tht are toxic to you and I all the time, but it's not passed to the muscle tissue, so we don't consume the toxin. Has there been any evidence that the melamine is passed into the muscle tissue in amounts toxic to humans?
I haven't seen anything on it, that's why I asked. In one way it makes sense, in your way it doesn't.
But, if it wasn't a concern, then why are they bothering making a big deal out of it? Could dogs or cats be affected if they eat the tainted chicken or pork?
I read this on MSNBC, I didn't check if it was in the Reuters release:
[blockquote]The California Agriculture Department said separately it was trying to contact 50 people who bought pork that may have come from pigs fed food containing melamine. The state#%92s health department recommended humans not consume the meat, but said any health risk was minimal.
There is little research on melamine#%92s effect on humans, according to World Health Organization, but the chemical has been studied in animals for its risk of kidney problems and cancer. The WHO does not classify the chemical as a carcinogen for people.
