    Oprah

If this has been reported...I'm sorry. But I heard that Oprah will be doing a dog show tomorrow. The ad mentioned it will talk about the pet food recall.
Hope she can get lots of people that don't have dogs,,,listening to what is going on.

    The April 25th show:

I don't see anything specifically about the recall, but they are going to talk about a "natural diet".

The page has a "local listings" link for finding the time and channel for the show in your area.  In Texas it is 4pm.

I'm very apprehensive about this show.  We'll see who she has on, but I'm not interested in some blathering idiot who is going to give the smack down to home cooking.  I'm seeing that a lot in the media right now.

The big assumption in this country is that we are all dumb and I'm frankly very tired of it.  People raise kids without handbooks and without a specialist at every turn, by reading, doing research, talking to elders etc.  But when it comes to feeding our dogs, all of sudden we are incapable of learning such !  I just hope she has someone with some valuable advice on, who will talk about becoming *educated* and actually utilizing the resources out there for information.

And I don't even do home cooked/homemade !  I'm just sick of the assumption that we need to leave the knowledge of feeding our pets to the dog food manufacturers blindly.

Oprah loves dogs.  She has like 4 or 5, which she allows to sleep in her room- crated. So, I do believe she must be aware. She has many writers and researchers for her show.  If she does not speak of the recall, then I would be amazed.

Educating the public is vital.  All of this food tainting is criminal and it needs that kind of approach in the material put out in news and editorials.  And shows like Oprah. I hope she does a good job, as she has a ton of viewers that she can reach out to and make something good come out of it.

Oprah ADORES her dogs.  When asked what makes her happiest in the world her answer is always "my dogs".
Its GREAT that she's doing this - her viewership is HUGH and this will call attention to the fact that we can't tolerate fiddling with the food for our pooches - that they need as much attention to food quality as humans do.
    Hooray for Oprah !
I'm setting the digital recorder right now - I'm not gonna miss this one :)  Thanks for posting it

I heard the advertisment for it and they said dog show,,,and mentioned dog food.  DH saw it and yelled to me that there was a Harliquin Dane...of course we don't want to miss that.
I have to admit,,,,I heard it in passing,,,,and jumped on it. Thats all I do lately is read about the food recall so maybe I just assumed THAT is what it was about when I heard dog food. I don't remember what they say.
BUT,,,I agree with dogslife,,,if she does not speak of the recall I will be surprised.  However,,, we never know when these shows are taped.   Well, I'll be watching to find out. Hopefully she WILL mention the recall..... it needs to be talked about by someone as big as Oprah.

I'm not sure about other areas, but here, they show the afternoon episode at 8:00 PM.  I didn't see this earlier or I'd have TIVO'd it, but I will definitely watch it tonight.

The show was great, I just wished the vet had talked more about the diet being balanced instead of just saying to feed raw and or  home cooked. But he did say ultra premium canned food and grain free kibble.

The dane was huge.................. what a sweetheart he was.

I wish more time would have been spent on the recall.
I HATED the fact they they said 15 deaths,,,,it is soooooo much more. I wanted people to be alerted that there are probably thousands of dead pets because of tainted food,,, 15 sounds so few~
I guess gr8pyrz doesn't have to worry about someone giving smack down to home cooking!!

I loved the Dane.... made Bubby look like a midget!!!  LOL!  Did you love him with the little Chi,,,and then the Dane sitting on his moms lap at the station....something that happens in my house at least 10 times a day!
    • Gold Top Dog
I loved the video diary of the danes trip.....lol
And the dane sniffing the chi's butt, too funny I thought Oprah was going to come un glued.....LOL

I'm really disappointed that she didn't rip into the dog food companies and the FDA for the lack of regulation on the pet food industry.   She could have had real impact there.

The dane was amazing.   I felt really sorry for the chi - poor little thing looked scared and cold.  And I can only wonder what her genetics are like .... but that's for another board

I think she did what she could after that meat expose' in the 90's.
I felt sorry for the little chihuahua too-  He was most probably cold too.  airconditioning.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that he recommend homecooked and canned foods!
