More recalls possible... Beware any rice protein/gluten

    http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSN2333221320070423

"We have learned that in addition to Wilbur-Ellis, a second United States company imported a shipment of rice protein from China that is also likely to be contaminated with melamine," the senators wrote. "We request the FDA identify this second importer as well as those manufacturers to which it may have sold the contaminated product."

thank you for posting this, Kelly.

I just ordered some of Monica Segal's booklets today and, for the time being, will be sticking with Timberwolf's Ocean Blue or Wild & natural and I'll just be adding homecooked to her kibble.

Screw this. This is just unreal.

Darn it all Glenda, i hate you being right also.  But you were when you said this would get BIG , involve a lot more foods  being recalled.

I hate this... people need to know NOW!....Thanks for the link Kelly

It seems to me that it is the FDAs job to report what they know. If it saves lives, helps people and pets to not get sick,, they should be telling us NOW which companies to watch out for. If this were human food, would they hold this information?  If they knew that some companies out there have tainted food would they say "another company has recieved tainted food but we won't say which one?"
I certainly understand that they need to check information...but the way things are going, we are like chickens with our heads cut off, running out and buying new dog food since our old was recalled, and then finding that the new one is getting recalled 2 weeks later!

I see a lot of "likely, might, and maybe" in that press release.  The FDA has to act on facts, not supposition, or else this becomes a messy witch hunt.  Unfortunately that means it takes time.   This is  not in pet owners best interests, but that's how it has to work.  And yes it's the same for human food.  It took quite some time to determine where the tainted spinach came from a few months back.  There was no press release (at least not from the FDA) until the narrowed down exactly where it came from.

not only is the FDA responsible for disclosing this info, what about the manufacturer!! In my opinion, they should be coming forward, NO they should have already announced a recall.  I would rather have them say, we screwed up and we will do everything we can to keep that from happening again (like Blue Buffalo did).

I can't imagine what the marketing stategy is to withhold this info.  What benefit would it serve? Once people find out, it is going to hurt their sales even more because they were not upfront about it in the beginning.

I'm not looking for another recall. I'm looking for information about who might be selling contaminated food. It should be my decision to buy it or not if there is question.  THEN recall if you must.
I just read an article this morning about how the FDA knew for a long time about the Peanute Butter and Spinach thing last year. They do not have enough people to regulate all of this. Darn, if I find it again I will post it.

    Okay,,,here it is!

Overwhelmed by huge growth in the number of food processors and imports, however, the agency took only limited steps to address the problems and relied on producers to police themselves, according to agency documents.

Oops! Sorry Kelly. Yeah, its the same article from a different place.  While I was looking,,,you were posting.

I guess it comes down to fact that we might have thought to begin with..and that is we must trust our food companies to test themselves and make sure to keep our food and our pets food safe.

It wouldn't surprise me that if it did affect people food (which it probably does) they would hold back info intentionally.  The media is so concerned about being  PC and not ooooooffending anyone.  Mexico, China, any Muslim nation...forget about, they would never tell us...that might spread ill feelings toward that nation.

So, yesterday morning instead of reaching for some soda from the fridge, I grabbed the jug of Sam's apple juice.  I think it is called Great Value apple juice.  First thing I think of is I wonder where Sam is buying their apples from, probably from China.
I pour my drink, look at the back of the jug and I read: GLUTEN-FREE.  Well isn't that nice of them to comfort me in that respect...SO WHAT THE HECK WAS IN IT BEFORE that my kids have been drinking all along?  Why did they feel the need to through that on the back labeling?

If if was our country that messed up, we would be the first to hear about.  The media would trash us and the company.  Our trading partners, our buddies, our friendly illegal aliens that soak the system for hand-out programs, if they do anything wrong
the media then walks the fine line and doesn't want us to know.

Yes.... amd here is a very interesting article in our newspaper today.
A warning! It talks about vitamins.   John from Eagle touched on this in a conversation a few weeks ago.
This fellow is a management consultant to many large food ingredient companies.
