Making the transition as easy as possible

I went through food HELL to find something that worked for Boomer. He doesn't have IBD or IBS, but he's got to be borderline. Well, the food that finally worked so well got recalled and we have to switch with no transition.

We're switching from Sensible Choice Lamb & Rice to Eagle Pack Lamb & Rice. He can't have chicken, so I was thinking of giving him ground beef and rice and adding a tiny bit of new kibble to start with and see how that works. Is beef easy on the tummy? Would lamb be better? I have Wholistic Digest-All Plus to add too.

Any other suggestions on making this a smooth transition?

PS - He can't have yogurt, but can have pumpkin.

    TIA!!

I hope Lori will see your thread. Eagle Pack has digestive enzymes, so you probably don't need to add any to make the transition easier. I'm not too certain that the acidophilus they add stays effective so I give Jessie an acidophilus pearl every day as an immune system booster; it helps digestion and helps prevent leaky gut syndrome, which can contribute to allergies and other problems. I think it's more effective than yogurt since the acidophilus survives until it reached the intestines and you don't have to worry about an allergic reaction or it causing an upset stomach. Adding one of them to Boomer's food every day for a while should help.

I would buy cans and mix them in with the Eagle Pack. Fish cans in particular are very easy on the digestive system. Another option is EP's Holistic Transition.

Aren't California Natural, Wellness, and Canidae all making simple lamb and rice diets? Is there something in those that your guys can't eat?

I'd probably do pumpkin and digestive enzymes, and maybe do a bland diet in the middle, like you were thinking. I hope he does ok.

I've tried the California Natural, it didn't work. The Canidae would have to be special ordered, and Boomer may have a problem with sunflower oil, so I didn't do that. The Wellness Simple Solutions are Venison or Duck. The Lamb Super5Mix has a bunch of extra ingredients like Eagle Pack.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone [:)]

I would use the Digest-All Plus, but at 1/2  the recommended dose.  I know that my IBD boy used to have problems if I mixed protein sources in the same meal, so if you are planning to feed lamb kibble, you may want to stick with ground lamb and rice during the transition.
