Supplements?

    Supplements?

    I was talking to a woman who has fed raw for 25 years and her dogs are so healthy looking and are much older then they appear. They look and act like young dogs.  She raises Newfs.
    She suggested that I try salmon oil and some probiotics with Harley.  What do you think?
    Where would I find these?

    I ordered Ella's salmon oil from sitstay.com, but I'm SURE you can order some from dog.com, if you so wish.
    It's fairly easy to find.

    Probiotics, well, I just give Ella plain yogurt.

    Most probiotics made for pets are weak. For example, the product Depot3d is spamming us with contains only
    400 million colony forming units (Enterococcus faecium and Lactobacillus acidophilus);
    400 million total live yeast cells (Saccharomyces cerevisiae);
    protease from Bacillus subtilis not less than 1,874
    proteolytic casein units and amylase not less than 1,125 bacterial amylase units

    A better probiotic choice might be the human supplement [linkhttp://store.thecatalog.com/2925.html]NOW Acidophilus 4 x 6 Powder[/link] which contains
    Lactobacillus acidophilus 2 Billion
    Bifidobacterium lactis (bifidum) 1.2 Billion
    Bifidobacterium longum 200 Million
    Lactobacillus paracaseil sub-sp 200 Million
    Streptococcus thermophilus 200 Million
    Lactobacillus bulgaricus 200 Millio
    n

    And the NOW product is wheat, yeast, milk, soy, egg, and additive free.

    Salmon oil is probably the best all around supplement you can give. I use [linkhttp://www.icelandpure.com/salmon_oil.htm]Iceland Pure[/link] and have also heard good things about [linkhttp://www.seapet.com/Oil.htm#omega3E]Seapet[/link]. The Seapet already has vitamin E in it, and E should be supplemented with high levels of omega 3s.

    Yeppers. I've got Solaray Multidophilus which has 10 billion CFU per capsule. 12 different strains of bacteria. Totally vegetarian too. The stuff made for dogs is generally pretty pointless. [sm=2cents.gif]

    There's no such thing as overkill with probiotics. Any excess is excreted and the worst you've got is a little money down the drain. Extra strains are added to ensure potency through the expiration date. Does your product guarantee to have live organisms throughout the shelf life? Do you have an option for those who don't want lactose, whey and yeast in their supplements?

    My point exactly, why throw money down the drain?

    because human supplements are better quality and you know you are getting an effective potency. they also don't have unnecessary junk. you're talking fractions of pennies with 1/4 tsp doses anyway

    Hey, if you believe in your product, great! I'm glad you have good results with it. I just wouldn't use it, because it's weak and contains unnecessary ingredients that could cause a problem.

    And posting the same post 15 times selling the same product is annoying at best, spam and against the rules at worst.
