Evangers canned??

I alternate canned foods one being Evanger's 100% chicken, the other Nature's Logic chicken.
My dog loves both foods and does equally well on either one. I mix the canned food with Orijen adult kibble.
Evanger's is probably the best value out there in premium canned foods.

You found Evanger's for $.80 a can and didn't buy some and THEN come here and ask us about the quality????[]

Evanger's is of excellent quality, IMO, and I top Ella's kibble with their canned foods.
I just got their game meats and duck and sweet potato formulas yesterday.

Evanger's has different "levels" of quality.  If you check out the website you will see they've got all the basic "cheaper" cans, beef with chunks, beef with bacon, etc.  Then they've got the super premiums that are more, Hunk of Beef, etc.  The cans you saw probably were the lower level of their line.  I could be wrong but that's my guess because the super premium formulas I haven't seen for anything less than 1.20. 
 
I think either way it's a good company and your still getting the quality ingredients even in the older formulas. 

Ella LOVED the beef chunks.
She also loved the hunk of beef.

Haha I thought it was one of thsoe "to good to be true things" so I figured maybe there is something wrong with the all meat ones.
 
I was going to be the Cooked Chicken one. I have no idea why they were so cheap. But then some of the other fomulas were $1.50 so I guess it must vary.
 
Well I'll be in that part of town and I will pick some up for her tommarow, I'm sure she will love it, I'll mix it in with her dry food and veggies. They have alot of differnet formulas it looks like.
 
I had been reluctnat to put her on more soft food. Because whenever she gets more then a few tablespoons of soft food her poop is bad[:@]. And have tried about 5 different high quality soft foods.  
 
Yet when she was sicker and nausous with her URI the vet told me to put her on home cooked until she was better. So I made a mixture of chicken, rice, potatoes, carrots, green beans, chicken broth and she does great on that. Her poop was better then I've ever seen it.
 
So I'm thinking maybe I should start home cooking for her more often.

My store sells it from $1.20 to $3.00 a can.  So I chose the chicken one for $1.20.  Zeus wasn't too excited about it.  But Evangers is on the "Good" list of not using Menu foods facilites so I like that. 

You could make up a crock pot of food for her, and use that to mix into her kibble. It's really easy, and they LOVE it. It's cheaper than good canned, especially if you're using chicken, and chicken bones break down to mush in the crock pot, so you don't have to add calcium. My mom has been crock potting for her dog, since all of this recall stuff started. She loves it, and so does her dog. She only has to do it once, per week (he's a smallish dog, and 14 years old. he doesn't eat much), and he's never eaten anything better.

Ya I was thinking of doing that jennie. Would kind of meat would I buy...just a whole chicken??? Or already cut up meat?
 
I think Raja would really like that and may be cheaper then buying canned too. Could  I add veggies to it also?

I'm not jennie, but I would suggest a whole chicken. It doesn't really matter, though, because if you find chicken leg quarters are on sale, I would just get whatever is on sale. You can add sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans or whatever you'd like. I would assume you could add noodles, as long as your dog handles them well.

Agreed. I'd buy the whole chicken. It's cheaper, that way. You can crock pot it for 3-4 days, on low, and add whatever carbs you want on the last day. My mom puts all sorts of stuff in hers. Last time, she put carrots, spinach, and a handful of organic, brown rice. I add supplements to hers, because it's her dog's whole diet. If you're just using a couple of tablespoons per day, you don't need supplements.

your mom crockpots for 3-4 days???
I'm going 24 hours, and that's IT.
I'm adding regular white rice as the carb for Ella's crockpot meal. I want to see if it helps firm up her stools.

Yeah, on low. Her crockpot is older than I am, though.

Boneless meat only takes hers 24 hours to turn into dog food consistency.
