    Need help ASAP

Raja has been acting sick for going on 1 1/2 weeks.

She started eating grass and then after acting like she was going to vomit, licking her mouth, swallowing excesivly, and drooling alot.

2 times she threwup.Yesterday and a few days ago.
Now she is acting lathargic and not eating much.

When she eats grass (I've been trying to not let her, but if I take my eye off her for one second she does) after she comes in and tries to drink lots of water and sometimes she will even try to eat...ANYTHING...She was in her crate when she was acting like she was going to vomit and she tried to eat her blanket.

She HAS ate the recalled foods.....she ate some Alpo once in a while, because my mom feeds her dogs that and when I run out of NB or CS I would mix in some of that with her Solid Gold Supplement.

She also ate a bag of Del Monte jerkey treats.

And she ate at least 9 pouches of Nutro Natural Choice.

I have none of the bags left so I can not check the dates to see if they recalled but she did eat these....they were within the past 2 months. She just got Alpo last week.

My mom came home with a can of Alpo a few days ago and the recall then happened, I checked the numbers and the can was 1 number off, but the same exp. date and other numbers.

Most of you are wondering why I have not taken her into the vets....she has just gone through Heartworm treatment, and I am broke. I kept figuring she had a hairball and I asked Callie the other day and she said to give her honey and lemon, it helped a bit but later that night she started it back up. I am calling the vet right now

She did get bloodwork done on March 5th. But it was the cheaper one..called Adult Wellness Profile 9...for $45 not the full panel which was over a hundred.

Also she is on Ivomec daily for HW treatment I was thinking maybe this is it, but when I asked Callie she said Mange dogs get 200 times her dose daily and they usually have no problems, so I begining to think it could have been the recalled foods.

Edited She also has ate  Dingo Chicken Sticks, not the ones that were recalled, but I guess they could have Salmonella in them too and be recalled at a later date

Edited To Clarify: The first week she was only eating grass but acting fine, only in the past 2 days has she been acting lathargic and only eating when she wants to. If she was acting lathargic and having a loss of appitite the whole week and half I would have taken her to the vet a while ago.

If this was my dog it would be at the vets....especially since your dog has ate some foods on the recall list..

Honestly, yeah, I agree with Cazzy. And believe me, I totally understand BROKE, but I don't think we here can offer you anything, I think this is something that has to be checked out by a vet. Do you have a credit card, or someone who can lend you money?

I agree with the others; you have to take her to the vet. Since you've had her at the vet recently and the vet knows you really care about Raja, I think there's a good possibility they would be willing to work out a payment plan with you. There are some members who have done that when their dog needed expensive treatments. I'll be praying for you and Raja; it sounds like she's really sick.

I hope you see a vet before the poor dog gets worse. Maybe you can work something out to pay later. With dogs, emergencies happen just like with us. I do hope you can get help very soon.

I'de just rock up on the vets door step and get him to see your dog, it's not as iff this is a routine consult that you could have saved up for, this is IMO an emergency and the vet has a duty of care to treat your dog wether you can pay there and then or not.

I rarely pay my vet upfront, they always let me pay off the bill as i'm always broke and my dogs never need treatment on the days i have money,it's always a day or two before payday [8|]

I'de be worried that the longer you leave it the worse or irreversible the condition will get, thats if it is kidney issues associated with the re-call.Nip this in the bud now and worry about the money later.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I called her normal vet at 6 and they told me they will not do a payment plan and then will not even take a check. Only Cash or CC.

The only vet that will do a payment plan is the e-vet which happens to be twice as much for everything. But that's the only option plus I can take her tonight, I'd rather pay the $110 just for the office visit then wait another day.

I'll let everyone know whats going on when I get more info.

Edited: Just called the e-vet and they said they are running 4 tests on all the pets to see if they have kidney damage instead of 2. And they said it's not there problem and they would rather people take their pets' to their normal vet [:@]

As embarassing as it is i wouldnt have mentioned any payment plan until after the diagnosis.[&o]
How can vets expect every single client to have the dollars upfront in an emergency situation??
This is just one of the many reasons i couldnt be a vet,i couldnt turn down people who asked for help, money or not...

A vet can pick and choose a few charity cases, but not turning down people would lead to a quick bankrupcy.  Then the vet would not be able to help anyone.

Getting insurance or developing a savings account or a line of credit to cover pet medical care is the responsibility of the pet owner.  A vet just can't do that for everyone.  They extend credit only to a few long time customers.

I know this sounds harsh, but that is the way our economy works.  I do think that you would be surprised by how many freebies the poorer customers get from vets.

    Raja19,
Sweetie, ask your vet if they take care credit. Our vet won't make payment plans either, but they told us about care credit. We got a $5000 credit line from care credit. Care credit is like a medical credit card. It covers almost ALL medical expenses, especially emergencies. We just got Ella's heartworm test done and it only cost $38 but we used care credit because we wanted to see how a bill would look, how it would process, etc., BEFORE an emergency popped up. They give you 6 months to pay of the bill before there's any type of added costs.

Look into it if you get a chance. It's comforting to know that if something major happened to Ella, we'd have that to fall back on.

I hope she ends up alright. Please keep us updated.

I am usually the last person to recommend a credit card, but it sure comes in handy at times like this. Can you get a credit card? Or will a friend let you charge it on his/her credit card?

I'm sorry Raja is sick.  I hope she'll be OK.
As for payments, I understand life happens and sometimes things can't be helped.  But, I think waiting a week and a half because of no money is unacceptable.  I'm sorry, if that's harsh.

I waited a week and half because at first because she was just eating grass, only in the past few days has she been acting different. If she was acting like this for the whole week and half I would have taken her in no matter what. I should have clarified that in my original post.

Anyways....the vet said nothing can be found and to to wait another few days and give her Tums so see if that will seettle it. The did bloodwork and everything came back normal. So that's really good.

The vet actually make me feel bad for taking her in, he said usually when a dog eats grass, its just that they did not digest the food right. And as for the recall he said that is not it and she would have shown symptoms earlier. So he said the bloodwork for that was not nessicary.

And yes I will look into the care credit card that sounds like a really good idea. SInce the vet did not do any bloodwork just pretty much an exam and a few other things I was able to afford the cost. And I do have a savings account for her but it only has about $300, and the first time I called the vet to ask how much the bloodwork was to see if her kidneys were fine they said it would be $380 plus office visit and treatment.

Thanks for all of your support and I'll keep you updated if the Tums work.
