time for another switch

    time for another switch

So Zoe has basically decided she's gonna stop eating Innova kibble.  It's a shame because she was doing so well on it - perfect poops and nice coat and all.  I had switched her to NB ultra premium and she loooved it, and her coat became even softer.  But it made her a bit constipated.  So I tried the Innova again and while she ate it the first week, she now just flat out won't touch it.

So now I need to find another kibble to switch her to.  I am looking for something with a small kibble size, decent protein percentage since she is a small dog with high activity level, and with the protein coming from mostly meat sources.  I was considering Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit but I don't hear much about it on this forum.  Maybe also Eagle Pack but it's not quite as easy for me to get but it's obtainable nonetheless.  Any ideas?

I don't feed kibble, but I do know quite a few small breed dogs that really like Artemis Fresh Mix (small breed)

It has a nice small kibble size, smells good and the little picky eaters seem to like it.  It may be hard to find, though.

Solid Gold Wee Bits is a nice food, but the dogs I know that were on it, did not seem to eat it with much enthusiasm--one tzu I know loves the Barking at the Moon formula, though.

I think the Eagle Pack Holistic line is nice, but I'm not sure about the kibble size.

Timberwolf Organics formulas all have small kibble as well.

Convince her she is a golden retriever and she will eat anything!  LOL.  Actually that is said about goldens, but not always true.  My Hunter never turned his nose up at his dog food, but never gobbled it down--even with fish or other good stuff, and he would sniff a dropped potato chip, hersey kiss, etc and walk away and the others would be on it like chickens on a Junebug.

I have never had an actual picky eater who turned their nose up at dog food--and they were always purina dogs.  Oh, take that back, Buck did not like the Science Diet k/d he was on for 3 months after his kidney infection almost a year ago.  He always did end up eating, but would often leave breakfast and I would just add a little more at night--he lost 3 pounds.   KayCee was on Science Diet r/d for several months to lose 15 pounds.  She didn't really like it, but always ate...just not with her usual relish.

I really don't have a true answer for you, but hope you get it solved.

I am an Eagle Pack fan.  I think the only holistic formula with a little bigger kibble is the Oatmeal/Duck.  I also use California Natural Lamb.  The only Solid Gold I've tried was the Wolf Cub (Bison) and he didn't do well on it.  I wanted to try their Lamb formula but havent yet.

You know it's funny, Sandra, because dachshunds are known to be real chowhounds, and Zoe will eat anything, edible or not.  I've never seen her turn down food of any sort.  I can't even have candles around the house within her reach because she will eat them!  Maybe the novelty has worn out with the Innova, I really don't know.

tzu_mom, that Artemis food looks really good and the feed farm that carries it is less than 10 miles from me.

jode88 - so would you say the other Eagle Pack varieties have a small kibble size?

Just before Christmas our one 5 year old golden ATE hubby's wallet and when i saw ate, I do mean ate.  She ate EVERY BIT OF LEATHER, leaving only the section of plastic the pictures were in and a little bit of th4 gauze lining.  She even ate corners off his personal credit card and driver's licens, but didn't damaged his DOT physical card, cards he needs to get into different plants, his compnay gas credit card, nor his money.

Then three weeks ago she ate one of the soft leather gloves he left on the patio when he came in to eat lunch.  I fear i have many years of following her around with a stick to stir her poop and check to make sure the right stuff is coming out!

Do you mix anything in the kibble? I know my dog has never been excited about ANY kibble and I can't really blame him.

I just bought a bag of the Eagle Pack Holistic Select Duck and Oatmeal kibble. The kibble size is 3/4" in size.
Frosty likes this food.Myrt like it to but it doesn't have enough fiber in it for her.
