    First Mate-fish and potato

Sooner (Kelly) the helpful person that she is, has located a grain-free, fish-only kibble.

I want to know if anyone here has fed it before?

If anyone has tried this, what has been your experience with it?

    Thanks!

It looks pretty good. A couple of other options are Natural Balance Fish & Sweet Potato or Solid Gold Barking at the Moon? Both are fish based and grain free.

D'oh! I meant to respond to the other thread where I saw that you had suggested that. I had to take Ella out though.

Someone else suggested barking at the moon. But I was hoping for fish-based ONLY kibble and that's got some other meat in it. I would say the ash content is too high, but I add water to her kibble so that doesn't bother me.

Have you ever tried it before? If so, how did you like it?

Oh, and I know it's only a 5% protein difference, but the protein is a little low in the natural balance food for my liking.

That's okay, I figured you didn't see it over there, so I'd mention it here. [:D] I did try Solid Gold Barking at the Moon before and it didn't agree with Gingerbread. I have a feeling it was the beef, but possibly just a combination of ingredients.

I agree the protein % is a little low in Natural Balance. The protein in the food I've been feeding- Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken is a little lower than I'd like also, but I've always added canned food to increase the meat/protein percentage. Of course that's harder now with the recall.... Anyway, I've never heard of Firstmate and I'm always a little leery of foods I haven't heard any feedback on. Natural Balance has a pretty good track record and history, so I'd probably go with that one.

Well, you may be on to something since I can always up the protein by feeding her raw chicken, tripe, beef heart or various other raw meats that are still sitting in the freezer from when she was on all raw.

At least now I know there are options out there.
I'd LOVE to go another meat source route with her, but she does so well on fish.

Blue Buffalo has a fish and sweet potato kibble. ;Protein is 22%, not much more than NB.

I saw that one, and thought I might try the puppy version, which is a smidge higher in fat, protein, and kcals....

I don't know why I'm so stuck on kibble, though. My dogs are doing great on their homemade foods.

Hehe, I'm having that issue myself. I know Cherokee does much better on homemade food, and yet I can't help but check out kibbles constantly.

Ella gets a raw meal and a kibble meal.
    Sometimes only kibble.

The generic "vitamin K" supplement in the food is something I'd look into.
