Be careful folks, but don't panic. There's no reason to. These foods are made in a different plant, with different ingredients, from different suppliers, and some are completely grain-free.

Why would feelings change just because some site posted that they are made by the same manufacturer as the recalled products? It's not news - it came out several days ago that these brands are made by Menu, along with Eagle Pack canned and many others that are not recalled.

Chasza...Thanks for the info..I did know all that..I called Natura and asked....I still wont feed there canned... Anything that menu put's out I am staying FAR away from

Quite honestly, my feelings haven't changed.  I don't feed canned, but I've been concerned right along.

And, during the Diamond issue, I wouldn't feed Chicken Soup either, corn or no corn.

This is something that everyone has to decide for themselves.

as far i knew originally, natura wasn't involved at all.  and now it turns out that they ARE involved.  and dry kibble wasn't supposed to be affected, but now i'm seeing problems with dry kibble pop up.  i've always been really happy with evo, with the exception of price.  natura is a company that sort of claims to be above all this, and then...

all i have to say is, what if???  in keeping with the theme of another thread, i have a responsibility to keep my dogs safe from any and all danger within my control.  as far as i'm concerned, there is a sliver of potential danger, and that's enough to worry me.  i wouldn't say "panic", i would say worry.

like i said, what i'm looking for is an easily digestible temporary alternative until i find out my kibble is in the clear beyond a shadow of a doubt.  so far, that shadow remains for me.

I'm still using Natural Balance kibble.  The make the food at their own plant and it is sent to the Diamond plant for packaging.  They have their own run at the Diamond plant so no other food touches their equipment.

So, I'm feeling safe using it and it might be a good option for others since they've got so many simple formulas to choose from.  And, it's easy to get.

Natura's dry products are produced at their own facility. Their canned products are produced by Menu in South Dakota - not one of the plants involved in the recall. Natura provides the recipe and buys and provides all the ingredients. Menu just cans the stuff.

The anecdotal evidence of problems with dry kibble are all kibbles that contain wheat.

I'm not feeding anything from Menu either, I just don't think all the hysteria is necessary. I fed several can of EVO 95% in the weeks before the recall and I fed the last couple in the cabinet after the news came out. For now I've switched to another brand, but I don't for a second think there is anything wrong with Natura, I just prefer not to support their use of Menu. [sm=2cents.gif]

Also, so many of these companies use Menu because they are supposed to be the best. It's been posted that one company chose Menu because all the other canning factories that were possibilites were "appaling and disgusting. Those who can't wait to bail from Menu on foods NOT being recalled would vomit if they saw where some foods are made".

Obviously when Menu is left to buy the ingredients, they choose profit over quality, but they do not buy the ingredients for all the foods they manufacture.

badrap,..I totally understand how you feel....I have felt the same way..it takes me to keep my dogs safe...I  felt a lot like you did..Worried...I called Natura and asked where is your dry food manufactured...I was told it's made in there own plant...Nebraska and California....I asked about the canned food was told it was made in S Dakota by menu foods....I did STOP all wet foods from Natura...But because I was told Dry foods have nothing to do with menu food's I continue to feed Innova dry...And My dogs are doing great...I hope I have helped you in some way...you sound like a great doggie mom

I agree. I fed Gingerbread Wellness canned earlier today and worried so much it wasn't worth it. I just got back from the grocery store and I'll be mixing in meat babyfood for now.

Yuck. I think I'm going to pass on ALL canned dog food; it looks like the industry needs a major overhaul.

I don't think it's necessary to avoid all canned food.  I'm going to avoid obviously what's been recalled--not that I was feeding any of it anyway---and maybe even all cans from those companies.  And, maybe even products with wheat until I hear anything more.  But, not all canned food.  For example, Evanger makes their own and hand packs their own.  So, I think it's possible to research and find something you can be comfortable with without having to go to extremes such as stopping canned food--which is very good for our dogs--or homecooking--which is very difficult for some.

I recently started mixing a little bit of Beneful wet food in with the Innova.  Just enough to barely coat it.  Bailey is so picky and when I do this she loves it.[&:]  I didnt think much of it... I know its not the best thing out there but its not too bad and she likes it... not to mention its easeir for me to get than others.  Plus, its such a small amount.  Anyway... should I not be feeding this?  It wasnt on the recall list but I believe it does contain wheat gluten.  Or, it wasnt on the list I saw.... neither was Innova though.  Im worried now.  I would hate to continue using it, then to have it added to the list at a later time.

If I was to find an alterantive, baby food is one?  Ive never heard of that.

Okay, well I just saw several sites that say to stop feeding Beneful, as it is one of the foods reported with the issue.  Im worried sick now!  I guess I didnt realize Purina made it.

ETA:  I just saw on the Purina Beneful websites that Beneful was not effected, that the only Purina products effected are Might Dog pouches.

I still wont feed it anymore, and will watch them closely.

jettasmomma - I like your idea. I`m going to make the homecooked recipe from dogiebag.com and use that in place of canned food with Mollys kibble till this whole recall blows over. As molly only gets 2oz. of wet a day and I can freeze some of the recipe it looks like this a good way to go.

I would never feed anything with wheat or wheat gluten in it anyway.
Now that we KNOW the cause of the deaths there is no need to panic. I fed some canned Natural Balance this morning. Going to feed some Evanger's tomorrow.

Yup, I've done this before and now I'm going to stick with it for awhile if not indefinitely. I rotate between the different Gerber meat babyfoods- chicken, turkey, ham beef, lamb... I think I remember Dyan saying that she adds different babyfood fruits or veggies.

Btw, I definitely wouldn't feed ANY canned food that has wheat gluten right now.
