I hate being right about stuff like this....but, my gut told me that this recall was gonna get a WHOLE lot bigger.......scary stuff.  Thanks for posting.

I guess they are concerned, thus the will not vouch for the safety.  They aren't  very specific as wet versus dry, but they seem concerned about Menu Foods in general.  They do mention no problems so far, no wheat gluten, not the same plants, etc., but again, it sounds like they are concerned and say they won't vouch for safety.

I mentioned in another thread I use the Special Kitty from Wal-Mart (dry).  I think should pick up some Purina or something.  My kids would be heartbroken if anything happened.

good god, someone help me out here!  DH just went to store and bought a bunch of new innova kibble!

    what should we do?????
    • Gold Top Dog
I hear ya. I have 18 cans of Wellness + 8 cans of Nutro Natural Choice Heathy Desserts. After this article I don`t know what to think. I can send them back within 30 days which is a hassle but....... Boy I really hate this.

Innova kibble is just fine.  There is no wheat gluten in it, and Natura manufactures all their dry food and treats at their own plants in Nebraska and California.

Menu Foods manufactures canned food for Natura, but at their plant in South Dakota (not at the two plants implicated in this recall).

i've seen that, too, but can someone please help me understand how ONLY the gluten is poisoned, and not the rest of the wheat products?

    i'm so wary!
    • Gold Top Dog
Supposedly the poisen was ADDED to the gluten.

I won't trust ANY product coming out of ANY menu plant for now.  If ever.

MIL just let us know that her cat probably has kidney failure.  She called TUESDAY and can't get the poor boy in until tommorow.  Bono has been eating Science Diet canned.  I WISH that I would have known that and I'd have steered her in another direction.

I posted that link the other day on here....I still feed Innova kibble...because they make it in there own plant,...How ever I have stopped using there canned foods because menu makes it...Maybe I have missed something on the news but last I heard they still didn't know if wheat gluten was the cause...
    • Gold Top Dog
    i agree, glenda.

so let's say you're in my shoes, and you have a brand new bag of evo that you're reluctant to use, and your dogs are prone to "mudbutt".  can anyone suggest an emergency homecooked diet that won't screw up the tummies too bad???

ETA it's not that i don't trust the links already provided, it's that i don't trust the large dog food companies anymore.  i just want to do something different until this blows over a little bit and i can be 100% sure i'm not poisoning them by my own hand.

    Cazzy,

Just so you know, from what I've read:  you are right that Innova makes their own kibble.  But the canned is done at Menu Foods - but this plant is in South or North Dakota - it is not the plant with the recall.

With everything that has been going on, I have read that a number of really good name brands farm out the actual packaging and /or the manufacturer.  So, even if one brand does make all the food, they still might send the canned food to one place to be packaged and the kibble somewhere else to be bagged.  Apparently it is somewhat rare to get it all done in one plant.

Menu only makes wet food. Also, most if not all the super premium brands do not have wheat in their kibble.

There isn't any reason to panic about kibble, especially if it doesn't contain wheat. In the compiling canned foods thread there is a lot of information about where wet and some dry products are produced.

Those products HAVE NOT been recalled. They are made by Menu, and that is the only thing the site is pointing out.

I can't believe this! [&:] I've been feeding Innova EVO canned and Wellness 95% chicken canned, but I just do NOT feel right about it now. I feel safe about the kibble Eagle Pack Holistic, but from now on I'm going to be mixing in meat babyfood. Off to the grocery store!!
    • Gold Top Dog
Kelly, they haven't been recalled YET.

since we KNOW that Natura does kibble in their OWN plant, I'd go ahead and feed the Evo.  But I would NOT feed any foods that were touched by Menu.  JMHO
