Eagle Pack, nutro, or Canidae

Eaglepack is a super-premium food with an excellent reputation for quality control and caring about dogs; Nutro is a mediocre over-priced food that has an aggressive marketing strategy.  This is a non-brainer choice.

    Yep, totally agree! [:)]

does anyone have any info about Canidae 'All life stages'

I question the aggressive marketing strategy bit. I don't see huge ads on t.v. or elsewhere for it. In fact, the only place I ever see it is the local flyer from Petco. And there's a Nutro rep. But I've seen reps for other food. I don't hear commercials for it. Here, there may be less than a handful of us that feed it.

Where I live, the few I know that feed it did so by word of mouth from other dog owners. Unless that's the aggressive strategy.

Well, if you were talking about Eagle Pack Holistic, then I'd choose that. But between the original EP and the other choices, I choose Canidae.

I feed Canidae, ALS.  What would you like to know.

And Ron, the Nutro reps are often RABID in their zest.  I wonder if they get paid on commission only?

How is Canidae with stool. I find that my dogs stool is somewhat loose on the eagle pack. I also wanted to just know overall how your dogs are doing on it. Are there coats shiny. Are they happy. I find that Luigh is doing great on the eagle pack compared to what she was on (diamond product) at her old home but I am just not 100 percent satisfied on it. I am nervous to switch foods but Eagle has to be special ordered around here and it is just a bit of a hassle but if Canidae is either a better or the same grade type of food I would like to give it a try.

We had large sloppy stools on EPH....not to say it is not a good food, but it didn't work on my test subject.

Yes, stools are great on Canidae, coats are beautiful....well, ok right now they are blowing so could be better, but it's that time of year.....they'd be happier if I'd just take the lid off the bin and let them pig out......[:D]

My dog's stools are great on Eagle Pack Holistic, but Eagle Pack Original has a lot of corn, which usually causes larger, looser stools. Edited to add that I haven't fed my dog Canidae, so I can't comment on that, just wanted to let you know why your dog's stools are loose on the EP Original.

There is not alot of corn in EP Original. It is listed once and it is whole ground and doesn't USUALLY cause larger, looser stools. (no offense intended tzu's)

I feed my hounds EP original and have for over a year and never had an issue with their stool. As a matter of fact, I have rotated them onto other foods (trying different things) and they look better, smell better, and perform better with the EP original than any of the other things I have tried (even the EPH varieties). We also feed EP Natural in the kennel where I work and RARELY have any boarders that have loose stool.

I've used Nutro and had good stool and decent looking hounds, but my Beagles are performance dogs and noticed a bit less condition on them during hard excersize periods. Other than that, I don't have a problem with Nutro.

In my experience, hounds (or any particular breed for that matter) have such different nutritional needs and there's no one particular brand that is the best.
I've not used Canidae with my beagles, so I can't comment on how it would do with them.

I'd say, if your heart is telling you to try something else, then go for it. You'll never know if your dog is going to do better on something else unless you do. After all, if he doesn't, you can always switch back, right?

I've never fed EP, I feed Canidae ALS to my Black Lab and it's been working great. Good stools, great coat (people comment), he wolfs it.

    "And there's a Nutro rep."

yeah, that's their aggressive marketing strategy. You can't go into a ;Petsmart around her without being attacked by one of the nutro reps who lurk in there.

Here's my experience with those foods:

Canidae - Good stools, great coat and little or no "doggy smell"

Nutro Natural Choice - Slightly larger stools but still reasonable, good coat, slight doggy smell. Easier to find but slightly pricier than Canidae so went with Canidae becuase the results were slightly better.

Nutro Ultra (fed by my sister so this is her results) - great coat and stools, but pricier & harder to find than the Eukanuba that gave her the same great results so she switched back to Euk.

Eagle Pack - haven't tried but Sis tried it and her dogs had pudding poop on it

I was having a nice conversation with a Nutro rep in Petsmart last weekend (he didn't approach me, I approached him) and the Blue Buffalo rep was trying to physically put herself in between me and him. I put up with it for a while, but when she put her hand on my arm to lead me to her food that was it. I HATE pushy reps.

Canidae ALS: Excellent all around results.

Eagle Pack Holistic Fish: Dogs wouldn't eat it. No special results that were worth the hassle of getting them to eat it. That's the only Eagle Pack formula I've tried.

Nutro Natural Choice Lamb: Big improvements in the one dog that's eating it, but he came from the street and anything probably would have been an improvement. Bought it because he was supposed to be a foster and that is what his family would have had him on. Will not be sticking with anything that has menadione.

Kelly, you should have reported that incident.  Blue has really strict rules about when they can even approach customers. That person wasn't following the directions and that kind of behavior turns people off. Typically, it's the total opposite behavior on the part of the Nutro rep.  I've never met one that didn't want to chase me all over the store.

Good to know Glenda. Report it to who? Blue Buffalo, Petsmart?

In all the times I've been in Petsmart/Pecto on weekends that's the first time I've talked to or been approached by any kind of rep.
