A list of where foods are made - please add to if you know any others

I copied this information from a post on [linkhttp://www.pitbullforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=63086]another board[/link].

This information was gathered from various sources, including manufacturers themselves, and is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate.

Blue Buffalo: Not made by Menu Foods. Canned foods made by American Nutrition in Utah. Dry foods made at CJ Foods in Kansas.

Breeder's Choice: Wet products made by Menu Foods, but not involved in the recall.

Canidae: No products made by Menu Foods.

Canine Caviar: Not made by Menu Foods. Canned food made by American Nutrition in Utah.

Castor & Pollux: Organix and Natural Ultramix made by Menu Foods but not involved in the recall.

Drs. Foster & Smith: Canned foods made by Menu Foods but not involved in the recall. Refused to say where dry is made.

Eagle Pack: Some products made by Menu Foods but not involved in the recall.

Evangers: No foods made by Menu Foods. They have their own cannery.

Go! Natural (Petcurean) Canned made at Menu Foods, Canada.

Dry made at various Candadian mills

Halo, Purely For Pets (Spot's Stew) Not made at Menu Foods. Foods are made at a USDA kitchen where human foods are made. Nothing less than USDA grade foods can even be brought into the kitchen.

Merrick: No products made by Menu Foods. All Merrick foods, dry, canned and treats are made by their own facility.

Natura (Healthwise, California Naturals, Innova): Has their own plant for dry foods. Canned food is made at the South Dakota Menu Foods plant, which is not one of the plants involved in the recall. They also say they provide all the ingredients themselves.

Natural Balance: Not made by Menu Foods. Dry food is made at their own plant then shipped to the Diamond plant where it is bagged. They have their own people on site all of the time. Canned food is made at their own plant, then shipped to American Nutrition in Utah where it is canned. Natural Balance has their own line at American Nutrtion and no other canned foods are run through NB's equipment.

Nature's Variety: Canned food made by Menu Foods but not involved in the recall.

Newman's Own Organics: Didn't specify which, but said "We contract with an organic- certified manufacturer to make our foods, although we develop the formulations and source the ingredients". Petfoodexpress.com says it's made by Menu Foods but not included in the recall.

Pet Promise: Not made by Menu Foods. Canned foods are made at their own plant in Wisconsin. Dry Foods are made at their own plant in Denver.

Precise: Refuses to say whether or not their foods are made by Menu Foods, but they are not involved in the recall.

Solid Gold: No products made by Menu Foods. Dry food made by Diamond.

Timberwolf Organics: When contacted, they refused to say whether or not their food is made by Menu Foods. Said they can't give out that information.

Wellness/Old Mother Hubbard: Some products made by Menu Foods but not involved in the recall.

Wysong: Most foods are made at their own facility. Their Au Jus line, the Chicken Stew and Gravy, and Beef Stew and Gravy foods are made at Menu Foods but not involved in the recall.

Also, Trader Joe's is not involved in the recall, but is voluntarily removing all canned foods made by Menu Foods, only as a precaution.

I would be a little leary of any company that would not say where their food is made.  If not made there, why not say so?

This is excellent Kelly.  Thanks for posting it, AND for the warning that it might not be 100% accurate.

I personally wouldn't be buying anything from menu foods even if it wasn't "involved in the recall"

Thanks for posting that list...If a company would not give me information on there food.. I am not buying from them....What's to hide is it a Big secret...I also feel like Glenda..I wont buy ANY of menu foods even if it's not recalled

Timberwolf's response isn't surprising. I've yet to see a question about the composition or production of their foods that they will answer.
    • Gold Top Dog
Are they hiding something?   Why not tell?  After all they aren't giving away any "speical ingredient or seasoning" secret.  Doesn't make any sense to me to be so secretive, especially over something like this.

    Yeah,,good list to look at.
For Eagle Pack though,,,it should probably say that the dry food is produced at their own plant, but the canned at Menu and not on the recall list.

Good to know about the EP dry, Dyan.  Max doesn't eat any canned so I guess I can breathe easy.

    Adding Fromm:

In regards to the recent recall of canned pet foods, Fromm Family Foods want to re-assure all of our existing customers and any customer considering a Four-Star product that all of our canned dog and cat foods are produced WITHOUT the use of any binders such as wheat gluten, and are not made by Menu Foods who has been a major supplier to to pet trade for many years. While we feel this is a major issue concerning the entire industry, no one manufacturer can underestimate the magnitude of issues like these, which is why we are doing our part to communicate what is in our products to our distributors, retailers, and customers. As such, we feel it is more important than ever to insist on producing our canned products using only the finest ingredients made in facilities fit for human consumption. We have based our entire manufacturing process on fibrous muscle meat production and the use of fresh vegetables combined in a Grain Free formulation.

    Key Points
    • Fromm Four-Star cans are NOT made by Menu Foods
    • Four-Star cans are produced in a human food plant without the use of wheat gluten or other grains
    • All Four-Star cans are made with 100% pure meat, duck, chicken and fish, NOT reformed meat
    • Fromm Family Foods does not use any by-products in our dog and cat foods
    • Fromm Family Foods does not test on animals
    • Fromm products are all-natural. Products made with binders to make reformed meat and products which use wheat gluten are NOT considered all-natural by our standards

We sincerely regret this has affected so many of us in both the pet food industry and especially the pet owners themselves who have experienced this directly.

A bit off topic here but the south dakota menu food plant- I know exactly where it is and have smelled it before.. Peee Uuu! Not something I'd want to eat from, given the odor wafting from it for miles around.

Nutro dry kibble in the bag, which is the bulk of their product line is made by Nutro at the original plant in California and the Nutro plant in Tennessee.

The pouch food for cats and dogs and the 12.5 oz. can dog food was made by Menu. Nutro's reason for contracting out the wet food is because their factories are set up for kibble. The wet foods are a small part of their product line and it is not cost efficient for them to stop and "re-tool" for wet food.

The General Mills plant in Cedar Rapids, IA also smells pretty bad some days. But it won't stop me from eating Cherrios! And you should smell the ADM plant that manufactures high-fructose corn syrup. The whole city smells like fermenting corn when the wind is going the wrong direction. But Crunchberry Cap'n Crunch & Strawberry Fruit Roll-up days at the General Mills across the river almost make up for it, Mmmm mmm! They don't call Cedar Rapids the City of Five Smells for nothing.

I drive by a bread factory every day - you'd think it would smell good, but it's really kind of gross.

I can't imagine any dog food plant smelling good.

Well,,, my favorite restaurant in the world is Taco Bell,,,my son worked there for a while and I couldn't stand the smell of his work clothes -- and that was AFTER they were washed.  Same with pizza..he managed a pizza place for a while.. and I used to line dry the shirts in my basement.. YUK!
So I can imagine these places smelling horrible!
