    NB Potato & Duck kcals?

Anybody know the kcal/cup of Natural Balance Potato & Duck?  It's not listed on their site so I wanted to see if anybody knew off hand.

Thanks!  (I'm glad--that was a higher amount than I expected which is a good thing) [:)]

Yeah, I was impressed too. If I try kibble again with Cherokee, I think I'll try that one. I like it better than their fish formula which has TWO carb sources before the meat. [:'(]

    Yeah, I agree.

I am just having the WORST time trying to find a food for Wolfie...*sigh*

Isn't it two types of fresh potatoes before fish meal though? Wouldn't you say the same if it was mackeral and tuna followed by potato meal?

Sweet Potatoes, Potatoes, Salmon, Salmon Meal....

Hmm..I dunno. I wish they'd give us the ingredient list after processing. I hate having to guess. But coupled with the 21% protein, I'm thinking it's not a very meaty food. Potato and duck is also 21% of course, so maybe it's really not different.

It's one of those guessing games and is rather difficult to estimate.  I suppose the potatoes don't make up THAT much of it considering (like MissKiwi said) they aren't in meal form.  It is one of the reasons why I didn't mind trying the potato and duck for Wolfie.

I don't know if this will help, but I e-mailed NB several months ago (before I knew Jessie was allergic to salmon), asking what percent of the formula was salmon meal. The answer was "Please know that 23% of the protein comes from meat sources". IMO the answer is a little cryptic, but there it is.

Every dog is different. Nat. Balance Fish and Sweet potato is amazing for MANY allergy doggies. I give the kibble. I used to give the canned also, but now I give her fresh salmon and a sweet potato, veggie dish I cook and mix for her instead of the canned. You can give more protein from fresh food. I give her some steak when we have it. She cannot have chicken, grains etc.

You should make sure she is getting a source of calcium along with that mix if she is getting it for a meal...

;Papillon's right; you need to add 250mg of calcium for every 3 and a half ounces of meat.

My dogs really did well on the potato and duck til the formula got changed then they both got gas and loose stools and on one of your posts, Papillon, you mentioned you were having great luck on eagle pack so we switched to their duck/oatmeal formula and all was going well except since a couple of days ago, they don't want to eat it anymore so maybe we will try going back to New Balance.  I have to feed a lower protein (in the 21% to 23%) to my large breed guy (plus he gets ear gook on too many grains) On NB he never got one ear infection and stopped itching, now that I think of it.  but on the other hand the coats are beautiful oneagle pack.

I had the same issue with EP.  He did lose interest in it, but that wasn't the major issue since I now will not allow him to lose interest (because I know he's just being brat, lol).  My issue was it didn't have many kcals at all, and because of this I couldn't get him to eat enough to support his fast metabolism, so he lost a little weight.  Other than that he did well.

Right now I am going for a food with lower protein (even though I'm adding canned which will raise it a little) to see if it will make his BUN and urine pH levels decrease in two weeks.  So far he has finished every meal of the NB Duck.

momoftwo--you said they changed the formula.  When did they do this and do you know how they changed it?  I'm just curious.

If you do decide you want to add more meat, could you add some EVO 95%  canned to his food? You wouldn't have to worry about balancing minerals that way either.
