Recalled Cuts & Gravy Ingredients

A thought. We at the company I work for know we are not using any ingredients in our canned product that is used in the recalled cuts and gravy. How does a pet owner know that a food made by someone other than Menu, does not include an ingredient purchased from the same source Menu uses?

Sorry John, but the gals do have a point.

We don't... and thats very worrying. We can only hope that Menu foods bought ALL the contaminated ingredients, since they do manufacture a lot of food.

John,

From a manufacturers stand point, how will this affect EP's future thoughts on "contract" work?

I am a firm believer in EP and sell alot of it (I use it myself almost exclusively for my performance beagles), but with all the concerns now over canned food, would this change EP's business stratagies (with your high QC standards) when it comes to your canned foods?

Look, would it be irrational of me to join the hysteria and hype that has developed from this food recall and put Ella back on a homemade raw food diet?

The more and more I read about the uncertainty of this food recall, the easier it is for me to lose all sense and just put Ella back on a raw diet.

It seems as though more foods linked to this are be uncovered every day, and even though timberwolf has not been include just yet, it's starting to freak me out.

I haven't fed any commercial food since the recall was announced, and will not until they figure out what exactly the problem is.

I fed Ella raw only for five months. But she wouldn't keep weight on and she started developing hair thinning spots on her head.

Even if we go raw or homecooked, how do you to know those ingredients aren't contaminated? I guess you can grow your own, but do you know if your soil is contaminated with e-coli? So you decide to raise your own meat. Do you know that the feed you give your chickens is safe? Where does it end? Sometimes we have to face the fact that nothing in life is certain and there is a risk to everything. You try the best you can to weigh and balance out those risks and make choices based on what risks you are comfortable taking. I don't have any hard numbers, but I'm pretty sure my dog would be more likely to die in a car wreck going to the pet store than to die of tainted food from a pet store. Car accidents are way more common than contaminated food.

Why don't you buy Monica Segal's raw booklet and feed a raw diet that you know is nutritionally complete? I'm willing to bet Ella had problems because a few nutrients were missing. I don't feed raw, but I'm feeding homecooked again. Can't do the commercial food. This recall just reminded me why.

A thought. We at eagle Pack know we are not using any ingredients in our canned Eagle Pack that is used in the recalled cuts and gravy. How does a pet owner know that a food made by someone other than Menu, does not include an ingredient purchased from the same source Menu uses?

That's a good point....how do you know that companys that make there own food or can there own food dont buy there ingredients from the same suppliers that menu foods uses..We dont know..thats why I have Stopped all can foods..I have 5 dogs and I will cook for them I just feel safer that way right now..

so i take it you work for eagle? isn't it kind of tacky to use this to push your product and take shots at others?

It's also REALLY bad PR to use such poor grammar, as a representative of a large company.

I think these harsh words for John are uncalled for.  He's helped out many of us with our questions about Eagle.

I cant find any grammar mistakes in John's post...

I reckon if someone "else" came in and started a new thread stating "We at ?? know we are not using any ingredients in our canned ?? that is used in the recalled cuts and gravy." They would be run of as a spammer,no?

OK folks, cease fire.  John has long been a member of this forum and he is welcome to post here.  John has NEVER tried to hide the fact that he works for EP.

This is official here, not just Glenda playing peacemaker......

LEAVE IT.  We've got some nitpicking and some personal attacks going on here and they won't be tolerated.

As a disclaimer, as  a foster home, I am in the position to at least influence what new owners feed.  Because of that, as a smart business move, John DID send me a coupon for EP Holistic.  It didn't work for my "test subject", Thor, because he had rather enormous stools.  But, I have rejected several foods based on stool size alone.  And just because a food doesn't work for MY crew, as I have said many times, doesn't mean that it isn't a good food....just means that it doesn't work for MY crew.

John brings up a really valid concern.  He KNOWS that his product is safe, but how does the general public KNOW deep down in their hearts for certain?  It's scarey.
