Natural Balance is produced in a Diamond plant

This is the email I got today from Jennifer at Natural Balance.

Oh, geez.... I can't copy and paste.....

Please know that the Natural Balance Dry formulas are co-packed at a Diamond facility in California. This means that Natural Balance uses their machinery to manufacture our OWN formulas. The problem that you are referring to happened in South Carolina and NOT in California, which is a seperate facility. Also, Natural Balance has it's own quality control representation that test every ingredient, batch, etc (start to finish of production). Every batch is also tested BEFORE it ever leaves our warehouse for distribution. It is extremely important to Natural Balance that we provide the best quality of food that is not only completely balanced, but 100% sade for our fellow companions. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me via email or phone.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Freeman, B. S.

Is there no end to what is made in their plants?

I'm beginning to think that the whole world is produced at Diamond Mfg.

Too bad Diamond didn't think of that for their own food.

And now I offer my brand new Eatables™ For Dogs which is the first national dog food brand to be made in a USDA plant!

And this is off the Natural Balance website!

This is starting to remind me of Soylent Green!!

Hmmm...That just bugs me....I still wouldn't buy anything made in one of there plants...how do you know that the Machinery is cleaned between uses....it probably isn't....Just to risky in my opinion....I would rather take a chance and feed my dog purina then anything made in a Diamond plant.....Thank goodness I don't have to do either!

I guess I'm confused, but is this good or bad news?  I saw it as good in that it's not made in the plant that had the problem (back east) and they have their own inspectors.  Unless you aren't going to feed anything but raw or homecooked, I guess you're taking some risk, but that's the same for anything we eat too right?  I personally really liked Natural Balance and plan to go back to it after this elimination diet (which has been a waste of time) is over.

Maybe they should contact this company to start making their food: [linkhttp://extrudedpetfood.com/index.php?pagename=Home]http://extrudedpetfood.com/index.php?pagename=Home[/link]

I'm sure that is 100% TRUE!!!

As I stated in the Solid Gold/Diamond thread - subbing out to a plant to make a dog food has been going on for many many many years. This is not a recent thing, or new development. We all would probably be surprised just where many dog foods are made.... I am just guessing.

Yep, I'm betting some people would be very surprised to see where most of their stuff was manufactured.  I remember my dad educating me in my early 20s on this issue.  I was being a "name brand" snob and he said "you realize that this grocery store doesn't actually have it's own plant that makes tomato sauce, soup, mustard, etc?  It's made by someone else, perhaps Del Monte, and this store just puts their name on it".

Dyan, their DRY foods are made in the Diamond plant. Eatables are fancy Merrick-esque, $2.50 canned foods.

Yeah, I figured Eatables (which I didn't know what they are) were made in a different plant that they seemed to be proud of to write that statement.

Got to thinking,, you guys know I always refer to the Great Dane Lady, I went into her list of food that she recommends to see if any of these foods that we are finding is produced at Diamond, and Natural Balance is the only one that is on that recommendation list.   Her criteria for putting brands on her list is:
• Feed trial results
• Laboratory tests on guaranteed anaylsis
• Philosophy of the company
• Ethics of the company
• Truth in advertising and marketing

Not sure if you guys remember, but a couple months ago (January or February) I had a big problem with NB's duck and potato kibble being burnt and different colors. Not only that, but Daisy got sick on that batch of food- she threw up and got itchy all over. This was the one food that we thought worked for her itchiness. Since then we got good batches and she's doing fine.

I highly doubt it, but I wonder if this has anything to do with it.

Yes, Soylent Green is people.
