Food recall article

The bad news is  both my k9s had these foods in the past week. Thursday or wednesday was the last pouch of kroger wet filet mignon. The good news is, so far so good. Branagin seems  perfectly fine.

Jessie, my husky has been drinking more water , urinating a bit more lately. She also seems a bit tired earlier when out for our walk. However, these can also be signs that her new meds are kicking in. She is actually taking 2 different meds  for her seizures. The phenobarbital has already been reduced by half. And she gets 600 mg of potassium bromide, most everywhere I read about this med, 500 mg seems to be the max dosage. She is now starting her 3rd bottle, so I believe a little blood test may now be in order to see if it is now at clinical levels in her bloodstream. Then she can totally be weaned off the other meds.

I took the liberty of further reducing the pheno in the last 2 days, and she seemed to perk right up. Maybe coincidence.

Point is, though I intend to talk to my vet tomorrow as soon as they are open, I am watching them closely and so far they both seem just fine. Now I need to tell that knot in my stomach to relax a bit.

As far as what food, I used  diamond lamb & rice dry then switched to nutro natural choice small bites due to the recall. Tried nat  balance, they hate it. Solid gold hunden flocken, well branagin will kind of pick at it. Jessie turns her nose up. Jessie liked the duck and potato nat. balance, but branagin is highly sensitive to poulty products, so.... arrrgh what to do what to do....

The FDA site has listed symptoms of animals effected by the food:

Good luck! Please let us know what the vet said after you get in touch with him.

If your not sure what food to go to next,,,just a little info. IF you can get Eagle Pack,,its a good food and the thing that is nice its a small company that makes their own food. THAT is the problem with what happened here....this company is gigantic and makes billions of cans of food......all with different brand names.  Eagle does their own in their own plant...NOT that it can't happen to anyone.

I'm sorry if this seems frantic but my heart nearly sank as I just saw that my can of Nutro Natural Choice for puppies is on the recall list!!!!! I feel like my head is spinning and I can barely read anything else I don't know what to do???? I've been feeding him these cans I bought a whole case and he's on the last can!!!! oh my god... what do I do?>???

I'm not sure what the exact symptoms of the illness are, but if you've made it through the whole case without any signs of trouble that might be a good thing.  I'm willing to bet your pup is in the clear.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate everyone responding.  I've been on edge all day because of this and I really appreciate the support and everyone taking the time to respond to me.  I know we're all afraid here. :(

I guess you're right that if he's been okay through an entire case he should be fine.. but the whole thing is just so unsettling to say the least....

I just don't want to picture my life without my little baby..

    VERY unsettling!
Tomorrow I go back to work,,,for a vet! I'm really nervous about it, hoping to not have to have a bunch of sick pets from this food....we'll see.

This "poisining" of dogs and cats has been going on for years.  It is nothing new.  Finally it is coming to public light how pet food is mass manufactured and packaged under so many different brands.  You were under the false illusion that since you paid premium price, you were getting a premium product.  Not so, it is all coming out of the same vat of contaminated whatever that they can get away with selling to you.

It looks to me that there are a few new people around here that are capitalizing on this food recall.

Yeah,i dont think i've ever seen so many names at the top of the nutrition board as i have in the past day or two,and thats not counting the ones who 'hide' their online status.

I actually have some of one of the recalled brands in my pantry, Hill Country Fare.

Sandra is your part of the country completely void of any decent foods?? Surely if you are only using the canned to make meatballs you could find a premium brand. Why pack vitamins into a meatball made of junk?? Sort of defeats the purpose, doesnt it?

I suggest that you go buy some chicken livers or gizzards, cook them a few hours in some chicken broth and then cut them up and mix with the dry food. Dogs love it and you don't have to worry about bad ingredients; just cook them really well.

Actually, you don't have to cook them, at all. You can just throw them in  the food processor and liquiefy them, and pour that over the food. Don't feed much liver, though. It's high in vitamins a and d, and can cause diahrrea.

You could make up just about anything, though, if you're just using a couple of tablespoons to mix into dry food. Any cheap cut of meat, boiled down, and pureed is just fine. You can crock pot whatever you want, all day. Chicken bones turn into mush, if you crockpot them for long enough. Chicken legs and veggies would make a wonderful kibble topper.

I was at 3 different walmart this weekend, and none of the walmart I went into had signs up about the recall near the dog and cat food, as I was online paying for something some lady had 2 cans of iams dog food and lady that works there came over and said did you find these on the shelf she said yes she said i'm sorry but they are on recall and we can't sell it to you, believe they should have signs up.

My dogs don't eat can food only special occasions will they get can dog food they eat dry food so all the dry food is clear to eat???

interesting, because I wouldn't consider ANY of the foods on the recalled list to be "premium" foods other than Nutro Ultra. Most of them are low-quality foods.

Well the good news for me is that I work for a vet and today was the first time I was at work since the recall. I was afraid that we would be bombarded with phone calls from worried pet owners and sick pets. Not a one has showed up so far....I am thrilled. Just a few people called to ask us if their food was on the recall list.    Hope it continues!
    YAY!!!!
