Does anyone know if Alpo is on the list??? My dog thew up the other day & once about 2 weeks ago and I'm wondering now if it was from the Alpo. If anyone knows please reply. I'm not giving him anymore until I know for sure...or I'll just toss it anyway to be safe. I have like 8 more cans. And what about Fancy Feast cat food??

Here is the link to the list of recalled products: I do not see Alpo on it.
One is a dog list, the other is cat food I believe.

Oh thank god! Thank you for posting that. I was so worried...especially when I heard the first signs are vomiting and my dog has done that twice this month. The first time I thought it was because my sister gave him some birthday cake [sm=angry.gif] and then says "Oh emily is it okay for dogs to have cake." grrr!! And the second time I noticed the cat food container was open & I thought maybe he just ate tons of cat food until he was sick. Then I saw this and thought oh crap maybe Alpo is bad too. But I'm a little relieved now. If he throws up again though he's going to the vet.

Where did you hear this? Does anyone have a list of signs?
My parent's kitty has been vomiting.. she's on Nutro dry, which is not on the recall list, but I'm still wary.

Menu Foods Issues Recall of Specific Can and Small Foil Pouch Wet Pet Foods

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Emporia, KS -- March 16, 2007 -- Menu Foods, Emporia, Kansas, is initiating a North American recall of dog and cat food manufactured in its "cuts and gravy" format between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007. There has been a small number of reported instances of cats and dogs in the United States (none in Canada) becoming sick from kidney failure after eating the affected products. There have been approximately ten deaths reported.
Consumers who have product which is being recalled should stop using it and return it to Menu Foods in accordance with the procedure found at [linkhttp://www.menufoods.com/recall]www.menufoods.com/recall[/link]. This procedure will be available from 6 a.m. Saturday March 17, 2007. If your dog or cat is showing any signs of kidney failure, consult your veterinarian.
The recall includes an extensive list of brand names and lot numbers. In order to determine whether cat and dog food is subject to recall, consumers should refer to the comprehensive list of products at [linkhttp://www.menufoods.com/recall]www.menufoods.com/recall[/link]. This list of products will be available from 6 a.m. Saturday March 17, 2007.
Menu Foods voluntarily recalled the products after learning of complaints of vomiting and renal failure in dogs and cats following their consumption of product produced between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007. FDA has been apprised of this action.

Following feedings of the product, some cats and dogs refused further feedings, while others exhibited signs of renal failure (signs of renal failure include loss of appetite, lethargy and vomiting) and others died from renal failure. Menu Foods has undertaken extensive testing of the products in question, employing both internal and external resources, but to date has been unable to confirm any causal relationship to our product. Specifically, tests of some affected products have not revealed the cause of sickness, and testing will continue until a better understanding of the facts has been achieved.
Menu's products are distributed to supermarkets, pet specialty stores and mass merchandisers across the United States. It can best be identified by reference to the list of products found at [linkhttp://www.menufoods.com/recall]www.menufoods.com/recall[/link]. This list of products will be available from 6 a.m. Saturday March 17, 2007.
Menu Foods is notifying its customers by telephone and mail and is arranging for the return of all recalled products. The products were distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
While the number of complaints has been relatively small, Menu Foods is taking this proactive step out of an abundance of caution, because the health and well-being of pets is paramount to Menu Foods.
Consumers with questions may contact Menu Foods at 1-800-551-7392.

No problem! I've been posting about this everywhere because I don't want any more animals to get sick or even worse die because of this!

Freereign even though Alpo is not on this list, still doesnt make it a good food.It does usually appear on the lists of unhealthy foods NOT to feed your dogs.Your dog would be so much better off if you fed him a healthy food, and not a junk food like Alpo [:'(]

Donate your remaining cans to your local shelter [;)]

Thanks! What do you suggest I should give him? It can't be something overly expensive because as much as I love my dog my budget doesn't allow extravagence.
Oh yeah..if it's not good for my dog then I wouldn't wanna give it to shelter dogs either..they deserve good food too.

Would you feed your children fast food everyday? [8|]

Feeding your best friend the best food is not extravagant; it's the smart thing to do to ensure a longer life with better health overall. Don't you want the best for your dog? Make a few sacrifices elsewhere in your budget. It's worth it. You actually feed less with a premium food because more of the food is digested as opposed to filler ingredients that comes out in his stool. The benefits of paying more for the absolute best food far outweighs the cost of one less night on the town, one less internet purchase, etc. If you knew you could buy extra time for your dog to live, would you? Think about it.

Your dog is beautiful, BTW. He deserves the best.

Here's a hint: don't buy your pets food at PetSmartCoWal-type places. Premium food is not sold there. I'm amazed at the types of food that people on this forum are feeding their dogs! Do your research, get samples to find out what works best for your pooch, have bloodwork done to see what is missing (or is in excess) in his diet. You will be amazed at the difference in his coat, eyes, energy, stool, and overall well being.

Click here for a better picture of the whole "cost" issue. This might help you understand it a bit more.

This is not my website, but it is one that is not biased. She clearly lists the facts regarding dog nutrition. It is a good starting point on your search for a better brand of kibble.

Chicken soup for the dog lover's soul brand seems "doable" financially for those on a budget..
