What gets my attention is that the regulations he's objecting to are for ;preventing mad cow disease. Clearly, Merrick uses 4D meat;  " ANPR#%92s proposed rule to prohibit SRM#%92s from all animal food including pet food and prohibiting materials from non ambulatory cattle and dead stock from all animal feed creates the below listed consequences of disposal of pounds that previously could be manufactured into animal feed."

Sounds like a Great food to never feed your Pet with.

Thanks for posting that Sooner. I had already decided to not feed Merrick because of the numerous reports of foreign objects found in the food- and those were accidents. And this is what the company is knowingly putting in their food and what they feel is okay to feed our pets. I don't know which is worse.[&o] What I do know is that I will never feed or recommend Merrick.

I personally thought this part was the best...

If the consumer is ever going to have confidence in any aspect of public safety in the U.S., they have to have some confidence that our government agencies#%92 actions are based on scientific evidence and no on emotional outpouring, speculation and scare tactics.

Have you read the Merrick bags lately? Their whole marketing scheme and business (check their mission statement, "comfort for the soul") is based on emotional outpouring... but I guess good marketing is good marketing, and nobody is ever a hypocrite.

that would be hysterical if it weren't so sad. it reads like a desperate man watching his millions go down the drain, but i guess thats actually what it is. ''it's not like we're not doing anything'' lol

I thought the same thing. How nice of him. [&o]

''it's not like we're not doing anything''

I also had to LOL at that. The rest of the letter is written very professionally and then I come across that part that sounds like a kid whining to his parents. [:o]

I just sent Merrick a copy of that and simply stated "wow...."

Could you explain "wow" a little more; ( I've been sleep deprived for the last several days); was it referring to their response?
    • Gold Top Dog
The fact that he would be apposing regulations that are trying to prevent diseases (ie: BSE) and the fact that they most likely use those meats in their food.

Kind of meant "wow" to be a sarcastic "good job" lol

Why can't cow heads be incinerated and put in the landfill?  If they're reduced to ashes, I don't think they can cause much harm?

Not that I know much about that.

I fed one bag of merrick (it was beef, bleh) so now my dogs ate cow heads?
    • Gold Top Dog
prions (the vector that causes mad cow disease) can survive most incineration procedures.
i haven't heard of any canines "catching" mad cow disease. Cats and ferrets, yeah.

Thanks for explaining Jana; yeah, it's scary to think of all the people who feed Merrick and don't know about this; it sells very well at the feed store where I shop.

My first thought on reading the letter was this guy needs to hire a secretary or, if he has one, she should be fired.  What a horribly written, rambling letter.  But I digress.  Surely we aren't shocked to learn that dead, diseased, dying and disabled animals are used in dog food???
