Prozyme

I use ProZyme and honestly - I've never measured, I just sprinkle some on.  I just do a light dusting on top of each meal and haven't had any problems. 

I use it. It saved Emma's behind. She has some absorbtion issues, and I was literally feeding her all she could eat in 45 minutes, and watching her get skinnier and skinnier and skinnier. She was skin and bones. It's a common issue with liver dogs. Apparently, they don't make their own enzymes well. She's still thin, but... she looks so much better. She gets a double dose of prozyme on each meal, and she's been having that for over a year and a half, now. She does really well with it.

I recently emailed Lew Olsen to ask for a little advice on her having trouble with her weight. She'd been ill for a week, and lost two pounds, even though she was eating fine. Lew said that I should try switching to an animal based enzyme, as prozyme is plant based. That makes sense, with dogs being carnivores and all.... I have a HUGE thing of Prozyme, but when it starts getting a little lower, I'm going to try Berte's Zymes.

Ok thanks, Ill finish this bottle and then look into the animal based, I have heard that too, but forgot. 
 
I am really mad at myself because I feel like had I been giving Kayla enzymes her whole life it may have saved her from dying.  It would have made life a lot easier on her pancreas.  I am just learning so much here and the more I learn the more I wish I would have known before Kayla died.  Although I do realize there was no way for me to know she needed anything special, but still I think its a good idea to give them as many good things as possible just in case! 
 
Every new thing I see I think man if I would have been giving her this, if I would have been giving her this, if I would have been doing this.... on and on and on....   [sm=sad.gif]  Just wish I would have known her pancreas was bad before it was too late.[&o]
 
So you dont think theres much point in worrying baout giving too much?  Just sprinkle it...?   I dont want to do anything wrong...

That does make sense.  I also have a HUGE thing of Prozyme and since it lasts so long, it'll probably be a year or so before I run out.  I'd like to learn more about this in the meantime...

That does make sense but I've read a lot of articles that say they should be getting a prebiotic on a regular basis and not a probiotic.  If anyone wants I can try to find one.  I've been using Fresh Digest with good results.

Christine, it lasts you that long??? Wow! LOL It lasts my "special" dogs much less time.

Ah ha, I see now.  I went to the site and it says it's good for skin problems.  Have you who use it noticed a difference?? 

I don't know how long it will actually take.  I do know that I haven't even opened the HUGE bottle yet cause I'm still using the small one I bought when Slicky was about 3 months old!  I seriously just sprinkle a bit on each meal, not alot.  Maybe I'm not using enough?  

I didn't notice a difference in Emma's skin, b/c I was more concerned about her general body state, when I started using it. It made a tremendous difference. It *definitely* makes a difference in nutrient absorbtion.

Christine, the dosage on the bottle is 1/4 teaspoon per cup of food. Emma gets twice that, and Teenie gets half.

Thanks Jennie.  hmmm.. So - that would be 1/2 tsp for him, twice a day.  That's about right - I'll actually measure it out tonight to be sure. 
 
Oh and Lori, Slicky doesn't have an skin issues - maybe cause he's been on it pretty much his whole life?  Or maybe the Coconut Oil?
