What to do with open food?

What to do with open food?

I use California Natural and Eagle Pack for kibble.  I rotate flavors but only chicken or lamb and duck once.
I thought I would try EP fish and anchovy and Sampson hates it!  Anyone have recommendations on what to
do with this kibble. I threw the bag away when I stored it in the airtight container so I cant return it.
I don't know anyone that feeds EP.  Maybe I can just mix 1/2 cup with his regular flavor or something like that til its used up.  I don't know...I hate to waste it.

You can see if a local shelter will take it, they may not though since it's open. It's worth a shot if you don't want to use it yourself. Maybe you can feed it to sheep like brookcove :)

    Give it to the shelter!

Or, wait til next week, and throw some crockpotted chicken on top[:D]

I can call and see if they would take open food.
haha...or maybe after the crockpot chicken he'll welcome the fish and anchovy.

I've been known to sprinkle kibble I didn't want around the base of the trees for the squirrels and other critters out there.  That's an idea, they will eat anything.[:)]

What I would do is mix it in small amounts with his normal food.  Or since I feed half homecooked I'de just mix some homecoked in with it.  But thats just me, I can't afford to waste food so I'd try to sneek it into my dogs normal diet as longs as she doesn't show any side effects from it.

I'm with Zebby,,, I would not waste my money,, I would keep putting small amounts in my dogs food until its gone..  She eats way too much to throw OR give it away.

I guess its a lesson learned for us all...to keep the food in the package until we know that our dog will eat it AND it doesn't cause problems for them..the stores will usually take them back and give you another formuala or even brand of food.

No kidding. Keep the bag.   By the time I realized it was the food he didnt like, it was too late.
Sam usually eats anything and I give him sardines and stuff.  He just didnt care for this flavor.  He reluctantly eats it
so I can mix 1/4c or something with other food til it's gone.

My three go insane for EPs fish and anchovy. I liked Loris idea, about sprinkling it outside. Sice it is pricey, I would sneak it in somehow.

I read that your not supposed to mix food, but I just think I would for a while.
I feed twice a day, maybe I would give her her regular food one time and then mix a little of the others in the second meal.  Probably what I would do.  Is it a big bag?

The one time I tried a forumla that I didnt' know if she would eat, I asked the guy from the store what I would do with it if there was a problem and he said "just bring it back, we'll give you another."  So I saved the receipt in my purse so that I didn't loose it.
After reading this, I bet we all will try it out before putting into other containers....so THANKS for the heads-up!!!

What is the reason behind it?
I feed Canidae, but since it's high in calories I use a senior formula mixed with Canidae for my almost 14 year old GSD.

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be ok to mix food.

Here is the whole link that states why. We've had this discussion before on this forum,,, not a lot of people what to believe this...but since for the most part there is no reason to mix foods....I will listen to it!

I know tons of people who mix food. It's fairly common to raise the protein of food with cat food among performance people. That's got to be way worse than mixing different brands of dog food!

Heck, Ben's morning meal looks like Dr. Frankenstein designed it - NB Potato and Duck kibble, canned cat food for more protein and taurine for his heart (I added that after using Misskiwi's handy calculator, thanks!), canned fish, and a can of Solid Gold Green Cow or a can of Evangers/Merrick/NB.

I'd just put a little in and maybe mix something yummy like canned fish in also.

I am sure tons of people do mix food, that doesn't mean that it is good for the dog or won't cause problems.   The article says it doesn't show up right away but does show up eventually. But you adding what you did sounds alright according to her. She writes:
The use of whole foods; fruits, veggies, meat or canned meats, probiotics/digestive enzymes and dietary enzymes will enhance a diet without unbalancing it.

Hey I don't know...I'm just repeating what I read.  It seems that since we are all so "into" our dogs food on this forum and spend days and days talking about what is good and bad...I thought I would mention this.
