Merrick

I'm amazed that you all seem to be implying that Lori is lying about finding foreign objects in the canned food. What incentive could she POSSIBLY have to lie about that here, and continuously??

Why the loyalty to Merrick, guys? Lori's not saying "Don't feed that food" she's basically said "This has been my experience, take it or leave it". I personally have taken it and never bought a can or bag of Merrick, but if you feel the risk is worth taking, then by all means take it. Don't trash Lori or act like she's lying. That's absolutely ridiculous.
    • Gold Top Dog
What possible reason could Lori have for making up stories about Merrick?

I actually know a gsd breeder who found foreign objects in Merrick kibble, and TWO people from the breed club who found the wing clips on the wing-a-lings or whatever they were called.  So there are three more.

    But everyone is lying??

Exactly, and that's FAR, FAR more incidents than I've ever heard about any other company.
    • Gold Top Dog
Um, where did anyone say lori was lying? Again, My point and I believe the point of the others, is one incident does not make a quality control problem, the rusty nail, etc....hasn't been proven and no one is able to produce any evidence of quality control issues. But, if you feel better demonizing a company and suggesting people should not feed it without good evidence well then carry on....Remember, there are real people behind these companies and it just doesn't seem right to spread rumor that could potentially hurt them if you don't KNOW it's true.

Ever seen a nail in Science diet? If the weight of the can is not within .1 oz of what the label says, the can is removed from the production line.

So it IS a quality control problem. It just depends on what your idea of quality control is.

    Um, here...
I agree with you jojo, is there actually any evidence that this is true and not just internet paranoia like all those beneful warnings that came out a couple weeks ago that were bogus?

Maybe the words "Lori is lying" didn't come off the tip of your fingers, but a STRONG implication that you thought that is evident in the above quote.

I am not sure people think anyone is lying...I can't say for sure.  I personally do not think Lori
was lying but I also didn't take her comments to JoJo on page one to be - here's my experience, take it
or leave it.  Maybe JoJo took offense to that?  I would have.  Maybe I was reading it wrong though.
I did feed Merrick for several months and still occasionally buy a can.  I do plan to buy it more
often in the near future.  I personally do take the time to look at food I give Sampson.  Im never too
busy for that.  I empty all the contents into a different container and look at it.  I have never found anything
in any of his food, including kibble.  Thats doesn't mean it doesn't happen, it's probably just far and few
    inbetween

In the time that it would take me to look through 2 1/2 to 3 cans of food PER each one of six dogs, I could MAKE two pots of their homecooked, which would last them a week.  No brainer for me.....I know exactly what's in the stuff I make......no plastic, no shipping staples.
    • Gold Top Dog
I was the one who should of been taking offense to HER posts constantly implying that I wasn't telling the truth.

Honestly, who cares anymore.  This is getting ridiculous.

    • Gold Top Dog
If that's what works for you....good.  I am certain Sampson is in far more danger if I cook for him myself.  I only have one dog and take two minutes out of my day to look through his food.
-Lori...I don't know if you and JoJo have a history or not.  I don't know either one of you but I didn't take her initial post as calling you a liar.  I felt she was just trying to point out that those things were fairly rare.  Thats how i took it anyway.

So, there are nails in their products, but that poster must be lying?

    ORIGINAL: jojo the pogo

We distribute the 2 largest "body part" dog treat companies, Redbarn and Merrick.  Both have had nails found in their body part products... Again, just about every "body part" treat company has had a few foriegn products in their treats.

    ORIGINAL: jojo the pogo

And honestly, I don't believe that a nail was found in that bag of treats.

This is treats not canned food.  The above quote post by me was referring to treats, not the canned food.

I didn't know that about Merrick.  I thought it was a good quality food.  I'm currently feeding natural balance duck and potato canned, but I'm having second thoughts about it.

NB is a far better food than Merrick.

How?  Come on.  Tell me how much better, with ingredients, seeing as they both have quality control issues, how Natural Balance is better than Merrick?  I like both foods, but I put them on the same playing field.

How so? I'm hoping your pots and pans aren't made from anything toxic[;)] and nobody's cooking is so terrible that it'll make a dog sick, lol! You can ask mine. I learned to cook with them as my guinea pigs (and love cooking, am MUCH better at it, now, BTW) and they were never too bothered. I still botch stuff, sometimes, and they really don't care.

I didn't say Lori is lying about finding a construction staple in her canned food.  Did I?  Really tell me where I said that Willowchow is lying?  I specifically said "I'm not saying you didn't find a construction staple in your can of food Willow"  I do believe her that kind of stuff happens.  But I don't believe that we should be picking on Merrick for foriegn objects found in cans if we are not going to pick on Natural Balance and every other company that's made mistakes.

While working at Pet Supplies Plus, I've heard about plastic pieces being found in almost all of the foods out there.  Eagle Pack, Burns, Canidae, Chicken Soup.

Again, why are we just picking on Merrick?  Really?  Stop picking on me, like you tend to do alot, Glenda, and tell me why we are picking on Merrick and not those other companies?
